KarlGoddard Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 why oh why OH WHY is it every time there's a job posted people instantly post replies relating to the salary, or lack of salary. Unless it's something high end its the same pointless posts....
martynbez Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I wouldnt let someone on that salary touch my servers. Pay Peanuts - Get Monkeys! go work in north wales for 14k then! 1
reggiep Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 go work in north wales for 14k then! I'd love to move back to my home town of Llandudno but the school pay seems to be awful and yet just across the water in The Wirral the money is very good! I don't get it?
localzuk Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 why oh why OH WHY is it every time there's a job posted people instantly post replies relating to the salary, or lack of salary. Unless it's something high end its the same pointless posts.... Because, it is an important issue, and people feel strongly about it? Because those posting should be made aware that the pay that they are offering is cr*p? That paying so little will cause them to most likely get a useless muppet who doesn't know his RAM from his ROM?
ahuxham Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 The job specifications a bit harsh. Who the hell qualified with a CCNA or MCSE is going to approach a job offering 16k, and not fully utilizing any technology apart from being a general monkey.
MrStobby Posted June 13, 2008 Author Posted June 13, 2008 1) If you dont like the salary, dont apply. Don't slate it here. 2) MCSE or CCNA are desireables with training offered, as it says in the JD. 3) Yes I would let someone on that salary touch my servers. Enough said. No negativity here please. Mr Stobby

StewartKnight Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 how about advertising for a teacher on £16k, fully qualified? It's different kettle of fish for teacher, but techies (trained or otherwise) still need to put food on the table!
Grommit Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Hasn't Kent just been BSF'ed to Northgate... how would the TUPING work as there is no job protection under 1 year of service..
martynbez Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 it's bexley london Brough! just on the kent broader!
KarlGoddard Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 how about advertising for a teacher on £16k, fully qualified? how about advertising for a doctor on 16k or an airline pilot..... totally different jobs... 16k is about the average in my LA and I'm sure that 16k goes far further up here than in Kent and as for the poster who claims that 16k only gets muppets.... 16k is bang in the middle of scale 3 up here - the average for ICT techs - a lot of good techs I work with in my LA are on that whack and they're certainly not muppets. It seems that being paid more than 16k doesn't appear to enhance your personal skills, well in some cases at least. 1
localzuk Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 and as for the poster who claims that 16k only gets muppets.... 16k is bang in the middle of scale 3 up here - the average for ICT techs - a lot of good techs I work with in my LA are on that whack and they're certainly not muppets. The average pay in the IT industry is over £30k. That would be someone with qualifications and experience. £16k is ridiculous if you are thinking CCNA/MCSE is desirable. The minimum for those sort of qualifications should be at least £20k. You say 'a lot of good techs' but I would question that. Sure, there are some, but the majority are not - else why would the government be using the BSF sledgehammer? It seems that being paid more than 16k doesn't appear to enhance your personal skills, well in some cases at least. Someone asked for reasons, I gave some. IMO, £16k is a pathetic amount of money for what is a highly skilled job. As such, there are a multitude of other places which pay higher for lower skills in the same industry! Take a look at the back of any Computing magazine, or do a search on a job site. You'll soon see what I mean. Personal skills are working fine here thank you, I just don't like to see schools ripping people off.
Guest Guest Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Take a look at the back of any Computing magazine... Take a look at your local Tesco's. They pay nearly £16k for stacking shelves ffs! Infact i know in Sunderland the cleaners in schools get payed effectively £16k pa if they were to work 37h/w
localzuk Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Take a look at your local Tesco's. They pay nearly £16k for stacking shelves ffs! Infact i know in Sunderland the cleaners in schools get payed effectively £16k pa if they were to work 37h/w Precisely! There was a customer service job going at our local tesco's for £16.5k for 37h/w.
cookie_monster Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Desirable - CISCO CCNA or Microsoft MCSE or equivalent. £16k is an insult do they have any idea how long it takes and how much it costs to gain either of those certifications, a minimum of £1000 if you just get the books and pay for the exams not to mention IMHO you need at least 3 years experience on top of your cert then approx a year of study. If schools advertised for a teacher and then offered half the salary for the position there would be outrage and rightly so.
martynbez Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 ok ok you guys need to chill abit! After speking with the network manager the wording may have been misunderstood or put a little wrong. CCNA and MCSE would be an advantage but not crucial and some experience/ability to prove skills would be needed! it will be check and corrected on monday!
