Geoff Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Got a problem with several machines of varying types losing their USB mice. Its not a hardware problem as the mice work fine on other machines and other mice work fine on the affected machines. I've not pushed anything down with WSUS or GPO's recently to break the machines either. I'm suspecting sophos as its the only thing that could of affected all these machines without my interaction. Anyone else having similar problems?
OverWorked Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Yes, I'm having the same problem with one machine. Don't think its Sophos though. I connect either a USB or PS/2 mouse and it works for a few minutes, then just stops responding. I've tried several known good mice. I've also tried re-imaging the machine to rule out software. I think I forgot to reinstall Sophos when I reimaged it, so I don't think its that. I've got Sophos on the whole network, and have no problems anywhere else.
webman Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Yep. Under devmgmt.msc can the system turn off the device (root hub?) to save power?
webman Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Just thought it might have been it, as we had a problem on a PC with a USB mouse (99% of ours are still PS/2) that would stop working due to the power/standby settings etc.
Geoff Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 hmm. is there anyway to disable that globally. Startup script or similar?
ZeroHour Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 what version of sophos? Is it the terrible 5? BTW you guys know that version 6 is out this summer? As well as a new EM console. More scary upgrades

Geoff Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 what version of sophos? Is it the terrible 5? Yes, v5. Isnt there that set of GPOs to handle all the power management stuff you can d/l? Its not that featureful.

More scary upgrades Yes, I have singed up to test it, after the 12 months of hell I have had with this one, why not add some Beta based fun to my live network. I just want my Symantec trail pack to hurry up and come through, get my boss to look at it with us and then we can get that Sophos diteched at Easter! 3 weeks to go!
