So. HWB Adobe software. Great stuff! My ART department in particular has been wanting photoshop for a decade but we've never been able to afford it until now!

My BIG worry though, is the spec of our PCS. Optiplex 7010 / 3020 mostly. Not even I3 and 4Gb RAM.

I am assuming the performance of the modern creative cloud software is going to be a big issue on that kind of spec?

Theoretically, this year's ED Tech funding was supposed to be Teacher/Pupil classroom devices but I have not had any confirmation of any funding or a timeline - it would be nice to have a clear and concise rollout plan for a multimillion-pound national IT project wouldn't it?

Am I the only one that feels like I am banging my head against a brick wall constantly? :/

If installing CC '21 may run into some issues with the spec as photoshop'21 needs a min of 8gb of ram. We ran into issues after updating some of our older hardware running CC '18, after updating to CC '21 it was incredibly slow and much heavier on PC resources we had to revert back to '18 so they could at least use the software

I don't know how Hwb are licensing it for you guys, but if they are named user licenses and people have better personal equipment that they use in a BYOD context, then let them knock themselves out!

So has anyone actually tried creating a package on the adobe admin interface and then downloading that package and installing it on a PC?

Package I created is throwing an error here on install and only installs 4 of the 7 programs.

Not a good start!

I'll be doing it in the next few weeks for the latest version and deploying across our whole campus, I'll get back to you on how I get on!

Spoken to a couple of other local schools who have had their packages fail also!

I just tried it on one IT PC that has not previously had any adobe cloud software on and the package failed and uninstalled itself.

Good luck!!!

Funny that the spec for the new ICT course if you're going to use Premier is 16gb and the eDTech shopping list limits you to 8gb.

Yes it's all named licences so users can install on their own devices as well if they can afford them.

Luckily our LA have packaged it for us and it's worked well.

You *should* find that the new WJEC ICT course allows the use of Premier Rush, which doesn’t have such towering system requirements. The filetypes should be compatible.

Downloaded the all apps template package and it kept failing to install. Customised the package and removed Acrobat DC and it installed fine. Odd.

Howd you get on @slugshead

Licences finally arrived yesterday. But when I started looking at the user provisioning, 365 A1 doesn't allow the Federated ID stuff (Well it does to an extent..), managed to get a bargain price for Azure P1 yesterday (ordered this morning).

But this is my plan.

Self service package

Deploy that via SCCM as available

Following settings in the installer

Management Options:
• Self-service install: Enabled
• Allow non-admins to update and install apps: Enabled
• Auto-update for end users: Enabled
• Self-service plugin install: Disabled
• Files syncing: Enabled
• Install of Beta Apps: Disabled
• Browser Based Login : Disabled
• Remote Update Manager: Enabled
• Include extensions folder & Extension Manager command line tool: Disabled
• Include Adobe Asset Link: Disabled
• AUSST override XML included: Disabled
• Install at default directory: Enabled

As for the user provisioning.

AD Sync to azure is already setup

Once the P1 License comes through I'll sync between azure and adobe based on group membership of staff/students AD accounts.

Then setup SSO.

Should be good to go, just waiting on that azure license and we're all good!

The only comment I'd make is whether or not you actually want the "Files Syncing" bit - we've disabled it as we want people to use OneDrive as their cloud filestore, also there were a few concerns raised over GDPR and the location of the cloud store (at the time it was all going to America, and there was no ability to keep it in europe - I don't know if this has changed since though).

For user generated storage the location is determined by the country code against the user.

UGC created using Creative Cloud for enterprise can be stored in the US (US-East VA), Europe (EMEA-West IE), or Japan (APAC-West JP) regions. An end-user’s regional data store is determined when the user is created in the Adobe Admin Console and remains consistent throughout the user’s lifetime. In other words, content created by a user account in the US will always be stored in the US data center, regardless of where the user is located when they upload the content.

The Min is 8GB of RAM for Premiere Pro https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html

However I would discourage teachers and students using any more than 1080 HD video and suggest 720 for file size.

The software need to work for broadcast and up to 8K UHD not recommended in schools.

All our PCs are min 8GB so we're good there!

We restrict access to C, which led onto the editing computers having second SSD in them and guidance on how to change the scratch disk locations to that second SSD. Scratch SSDs are cleared out on a monthly basis

We have a 72TB NAS dedicated for the art department students and each student has their own folder mapped

Ahh I had this when we upgraded back in February - took forever to figure it out, but there is a bug with Adobe Acrobat being unable to install when there is no user logged in.

This is fixed in the update here: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousfeb2021qfe.html#dccontinuousfebtwentytwentyoneqfeHowever this is NOT included in the package downloaded from the Admin Console. For unknown reasons. Because Adobe?

MANUAL FIX

Download package from Admin Console

Download relevant MSP from the link above (AcrobatDCUpd2100120138.msp)

Navigate to \Build\Setup\APRO21.0\Adobe Acrobat

Replace the AcrobatDCUpd2100120135.msp with the AcrobatDCUpd2100120138.msp

Edit the "setup.ini" file, changing line:

PATCH=AcrobatDCUpd2100120135.msp

To

PATCH=AcrobatDCUpd2100120138.msp

And save

Would then need to update content in SCCM/whatever you use to push out software.

Hopefully that helps someone/saves days of head-scratching!

Cheers,

Stephen
