browolf Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 https://www.ui.com/unifi-switching/unifi-switch-16-xg/ Need one in a cabinet but I couldn't get one before easter and now , even though the above page still exists, there's no fibre switch in their new switch lineup - https://unifi-network.ui.com/switching In about 3 years the DFE will be giving us a new school with Aruba gear so it seems prudent to get some that we can later put in buildings which are staying.
3s-gtech Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Closest I can find is JL253A - quite a different beast - but Aruba don't seem to do a SFP+ port heavy switch until you get into the 6300 series (and you have to sell poor old grandma). 1
pete Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 In 1U? 6300. If you can spare 4U, pick a 5406zl chassis and fill the bay modules until you have sufficient SFP+ ports?
Chris_ Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Aruba JL075A 16x SFP+ ports. But looking at the prices, you could get 10x Mikrotik CRS317-1G-16S+RM switches and still have money left over.
3s-gtech Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Ah missed that - may have come at their website without the required attitude! It’s still beasty money though!

Rob_D Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 I'm not seeing anything that hasn't been mentioned before, but it's always worth having a go with the HPE Switch selector.
Chris_ Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 ~16x more expensive too I found this but I've never heard of FS. Are Mikrotik a decent brand? I'd say Mikrotik are a decent brand. Good performance kit with lots of features for not a great amount of money. I'm surprised I've not seen more of them in schools. The Mikrotik option or the Ubiquiti ES-16-XG are so cheap they're almost disposable, use them for 3 years then get rid when you get your new building.
Davit2005 Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 (edited) At home I have 2 JL253A (Aruba 2930f's with 4 x SFP+) then I have 2 MikroTik 10Gb switches with a LAG setup between each MikroTik and the 2930f, stack it jus gives enough ports on the 2930f to be able to have 2 x 10Gb cables for stacking then one cable on each 2930 for each MikroTik. The Aruba's in my case are been mainly used for routing with servers and with the other switches connected to the Mikrotiks so gives quite good redundancy although yeah am limited by the 10Gb uplinks compared to say a 5406r Chassis or a 1U switch with 10Gb+ speed uplinks. Using LAG will help. You don't have to use specific ports with the 2930f's as long as the port speed is the same throughout the stack. But as others have said, high capacity 10Gb switches with the features of logical stacking and routing are going to be expensive, the MikroTiks are OK but once you do advanced stuff the throughput takes a big hit. Of course if you can use LAG and not rely on spanning tree you are going to have better capacity for throughput on the switch links. We are an Aruba environment at work with 700+ Edge, 4 Core switches, OSPF and spanning tree giving very high availability although that will change in a few years. Edited April 15, 2021 by Davit2005
browolf Posted April 16, 2021 Author Posted April 16, 2021 I couldn't find it the other day but it seems Ubiquiti has replaced the XG with these models https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-switching/products/unifi-switch-aggregation https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-switching/products/unifi-switch-aggregation-pro the pro has 4 x 25GB ports + 28x 10GB ports!

The ES-16-XG seems still to be an option I think but not sure what their plans are for the ES or ER range as of yet, has anyone? I had 2 of these at home for a while but found one needed the odd reboot even though same firmware versions. But the Aggregation Pro does seem a nice option but think the L3 functionality is still in Alpha, could be wrong on that though and cannot find much on the Internet Edited April 16, 2021 by Davit2005
snoerre Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 (edited) ~16x more expensive too I found this but I've never heard of FS. Are Mikrotik a decent brand? I wouldn´t recommend the MikroTik switch. Its software is rubbish compared to anything else; e.g. layer 3 is not ready, has alpha status or has no full hardware acceleration. I use those as inexpensive media converters, only. Fibestore (FS.com) resells components from many chinese vendors and provides warranty itself. That FS.com switch is actually this one from a company called Ruijie Networks.(=> configuration guide and cli manual) That company is rather unknown in western countries. In china e.g. Tsinghua university uses its switches according to 1 or 2. At least they know something about IPv6, i.e. "SAVI" in year 2010, something MikroTik isn´t aware of in year 2021.
