iPad printing - job accounting - Kyocera MFD - Mac mini..?

Not sure where to post this (possibly in the 'Netbooks, PDA and Phones' forum - but it may be a Mac solution)...?

 

We have a need for a SEN student to be able to type on an iPad and then be able to print their work.

 

Unfortunately I have practically zero knowledge of how to accomplish this and I'm asking here hoping to save hours of Googling (and failing).

 

We are a full Windows estate, Windows desktops/laptops, Windows servers (and our print server is set up to Kyocera MFDs with job accounting).

 

I have a printer which is ethernet connected but set-up with an IP on the wi-fi VLAN (this is so the Head can print from his Mac), it was a little bit of a headache to work out when I set it up years ago, but works OK as the job accounting code is set-up in a 'printing profile'.

 

Now I can't find anything similar on the iPad, although it can see the printer in question and sends the job, it fails as there is no job accounting code sent...

 

What we do have though is a virtually unused old Mac mini (late 2014) sitting in the server room (running Mojave).

 

Am I right in thinking that even if I set a print server up on the Mac mini, it will still fail as the printer itself will expect a job accounting code?

Airdrop from iPad to a Mac, send to windows device .. print?

 

Will save a lot of trouble and a lot easier than setting up what you had planned.

I've never once had any form of job accounting within a MFD working on an iPad, do you have a spare printer you can hook up on the network some where, setup so only that iPad can print to it, all jobs are sent to that they they are collected by student at some point during the day?

 

Or I would be going down the PaperCut route for all devices, use Mobilty Print, allow SEN student to print to queue then login and get jobs.

You could use HandyPrint to turn your Mac mini into a AirPrint server. Netputing » handyPrint (AirPrint Activator) it's backwards compatable with older iPads running IOS 9, as papercut mobile server only covers newer IOS's.
