TwistedHelixis Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 (edited) Head has a surface pro and uses both Google Meet and Teams. When she opens Teams (desktop app) her mic does not work. The mic works fine in windows and other software like Google Meet and is selected as the default input in Teams. We even purcased a seperate mic / headphone in the hope it would fix this issue but still no joy. Any ideas, as its sending me a bit loopy trying to workout whats going on. EDIT - I have also tried to uninstall Teams and re install Edited February 25, 2021 by TwistedHelixis
Steve21 Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Has it ever worked in Teams? Just thinking there's loads of bits it could be if not, app privacy permissions (sometimes it locks after updates -> settings -> privacy -> mic etc), it's locked by another program that's using it? (Meet/Skype etc) Steve 1
TwistedHelixis Posted February 25, 2021 Author Posted February 25, 2021 Has it ever worked in Teams? Yes, but it stopped working a few weeks ago. luckily I have given her a spare laptop that works but I would rather it was working on her own device. pp privacy permissions (sometimes it locks after updates -> settings -> privacy -> mic etc), it's locked by another program that's using it? (Meet/Skype etc) Cheers, Ill take a look at those next week when I am back in the school.
3s-gtech Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Had the same on two Surface Pro 2s. Just in Teams. They’re now retired, gladly! 1
p858snake Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I'm guessing you have already checked, But when you are in a meeting go into the settings and check which device it's using as the mic. I have seen it sometimes picking up anything but the default mic as the device 1

ICT-Joe Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 We had a similar issue here. We found out that for some reason, the device was muted, even though it worked in everything else but Teams. To fix this, we had to go into Troubleshooting and then Recording Audio, which unmuted the device. 1
Andrew_C Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Check mic settings in system tray AND Teams. Seems to change at random. Also - wasn't there a global Teams problem recently? 1
chazzy2501 Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 I hate that when you deny permission to the microphone in Windows 10 it mutes the mic for that application, it should make it so the device doesn't exist for the application.
KK20 Posted March 4, 2021 Posted March 4, 2021 Try plugging in a simple usb soundcard (you know what I mean) and see if that works, if so then it could be a driver thing, windows updates seems to love adding drivers for surface pro (we have drivers disabled in WSUS but I have still seen drivers updated on surfaces!). We have a plantronics headset that refuses to work in "gotomeeting" (comes out sounding like a robot) but works perfectly in zoom, teams, "parent booking" and other recording software - it is purely gotomeeting. A cheap £3 USB soundcard works just fine in all the above.
