  • At least 2 monitors, preferably 3 (mainly for symmetry).
  • Keyboard with number pad. Use 3RVX in preference to media keys.
  • Mouse with scroll wheel (pretty much any mouse) but also buttons on each side for forward/back (not many). Even better, a trackball as above. No R/L buttons; StrokesPlus installed. If a mouse, also a pad - nothing fancy, I just use a washable one that's less than 1mm thick
  • Bluetooth (not a given on desktops)
  • Bluetooth headphones (wires always tangle) - nothing fancy again
  • "Riser" stand if using a laptop
  • Decent machine, but doesn't have to be super-powered (though that's nice)
  • WhatsApp Web and Your Phone installed/configured so that I can use a decent keyboard to type messages

Other than the software above to duplicate hardware functions, I have a bunch of "must have" software. That seems to be more for a different thread, though.

Personally I wouldn't be without :-

  • A Decent Quality adjustable Desk and Chair
  • A single large monitor (currently using a 34" Samsung Ultrawide 3440x1440). I prefer a large ultrawide to a dual monitor setup.
  • A Logitech MX Master Mouse - Best mouse in the world IMO!

Two monitors at work. My home setup at the moment is a laptop balanced on a bin under my desk, with a monitor, keyboard and mouse, which is just about all I can fit on my desk. Software wise, Remote Desktop Manager is essential.

RoyalTS is in a similar vein. It supports RDP, SSH, Telnet, Hyper-V, ESXi, VNC and Teamviewer. It's pretty danged useful.

I didn't realise that was still in development. I have an older version which I used occassionally for RDP but the new one supports way more things. Will have to check that out!
