managed wireless system

Hello everyone.

 

I’m looking for a managed wireless system with about 12 access point for a one form entry primary school. We have been fitting Netgear systems so far but we cannot get hold of Netgear at the moment.

 

Any recommendation would be much appreciated.

Unifi, we are just about to replace what remaining Aruba kit we have with Unifi too. Aruba kit been good but Unifi is the way now for us with WiFi, already got several hundred AP's out there.

 

Still use Aruba switching, I prefer them anyway over the Unifi switches for what we need.

Another one for Unifi, We had it for nearly 3 years and only have had one issue with it that was due to the controller playing up , other than that I wouldn’t recommend another system for a primary school. We are on 26 aps now

Thanks everyone, clearly Unifi is the winner here.

 

We have it too in one of the school/nursery that I support. They did have issues but I think it is just the lack of devices for the amount of space they are trying to cover ,nothing to do with the performance of the system.

 

Which Unifi AP are you all using?

 

There are so many on the website.

 

Is there a controller for it? I read that it's cloud based.

Unifi is ok. Cheap but technical support is terrible. its the bargain you make. if unlimited money was available I'd use Meraki.

We are using the AC Pro's, Yes you can have the controller in the cloud or on premises on something called a cloud key which is just a Debian box or you can run it on a windows or Linux machine

We put unifi in over the summer, went with SHD access points but we have some areas which are quite dense deployments and heavy use. AC pro's would be fine for most circumstances. We have the controller running on a VM, if you have spare capacity to virtualise it then it's free, if not the cloud key seems to work well.

Unifi, worth looking at their Dream Machine Pro if you want USG and Cloudkey2 etc in one package
