Dos_Box Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 We have one week to go before the big day, and if leaks are to be belived (taken with the obligatory pinch of salt obviously!) then they may well be stealing the gaming crown from Intel. I just hope they don't price gouge with this launch, but if they are as good as is being talked about then it would make sense for them to do this next year (for the 6000 series) if they are maintaining the power advantage over Intel and gettign more converts with this launch. Coupled with Big Navi's launch on the 29th October may be looking to deal a double-whammy over Intel and Nvidia however, if the leaked pic showing the GTX 3060 being on par with a 2080ti then AMD have some work to do! All that remains then is for the independant reviwers to do side by side benchmarks and we shall get to see just how this pans out with both CPU's and GPU's. We, the PC enthusiast community, do live in good times once again 2
Dos_Box Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 (edited) AMD will be doing the launch at 5pm UK time (12pm eastern time US) and you can watch it live either here - https://www.amd.com/en/events/gaming-2020 Exciting times! I do note that many online tech reviewers have been quiet this week, I hope this is because they have had their review samples delivered and have been kept busy. Hopefully we can expect reviews to go live over the weekend Edited October 7, 2020 by Dos_Box 3
Tefters Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Can't wait to see the benchmarks of this and the Navi's + hoping their bragging on stock being good is true. Just gotta rummage through my bits and bobs box in the hope I kept my AIO cooler AM3 bracket to swap out my Intel.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 Just gotta rummage through my bits and bobs box in the hope I kept my AIO cooler AM3 bracket to swap out my Intel. I was never happier than when I realised I'd saved the AMD adapter for my H100i! My 3600X runs like a dream with it.

My 3600X runs like a dream with it.I delided my current 7th gen i7 as it ran hot as hell and used liquid metal than shoved an AIO gamerstorm (I think) dual rad on it then threw away the box in my usual style... Runs like a dream but was I smart enough to keep the other bits in a mobo box somewhere [emoji849]

sonofsanta Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 Ah, the good old motherboard box, the Shangri-La for old connectors and cables and weird old motherboard pin adaptors. ...literally what I have all mine in at home. They're just good boxes! It is possible, too, that it's just because they're the shiniest box. They always seem to come with a fancy foil finish on them that my magpie brain can't resist. 1

They really are like a bag of holding for the geek world. I think it starts with your first box when you still have a few odds and sods in there left over from the install and decide to put things in there like the RAM packaging (with the old ram now living inside) and all the paperwork for some reason. And IDE cables. Lots and lots of IDE cables. Mine are also getting to become like hedgehog houses, but for old laptop drives after replacing friends and families old spinning disks for SSD's. It also gets a bit weird when you begin to find I/O shields for motherboards you never had in the first place. I have many of these Oooh, 8 mins till launch! Edited October 9, 2020 by Dos_Box 1
Tefters Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 So everything looks good on paper. Just need to see those real world benchmarks as there's seem very ambitious. 1
Dos_Box Posted October 9, 2020 Author Posted October 9, 2020 So everything looks good on paper. Just need to see those real world benchmarks as there's seem very ambitious. Indeed, I look forwards to those happening soon. I did note that many are pointing out that there is no 5700, which could be a cynical move to force people to pay an extra £100 for the 5800. I had hoped that AMD were going to go for the 'cheaper option' one last time so to put a final blow into Intel, but they must be very confident that they have a winner here with the pricing increases they have shown.
DaveTheTech Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Im eager to see the performance and also price/performance comparison to Intel. Good job that we are having to wait for the rtx3000 series to come into stock.

Good job that we are having to wait for the rtx3000 series to come into stock. Yes, by some accounts the Nvidia launch was a bit of a rush job and this will hurt them once Big Navi is launched, as they can't get the sales momentum, even if demand is high, and if AMD do have equal or better performance (at a slightly lower price) then they could be in big trouble.
DalekSec Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Looks like i'll have to wait till Jan anyway, i have a 400 series board and support for 5th gen isn't out till Jan for those boards :/

ITGuyNW Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I'm pricing up a budget upgrade at the minute. Looks like either 3700 with B450 or 5600 with B550.. seems a bit of a price gap between the two though.
DalekSec Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I'm eyeing up about £1500 of upgrades for my pc... Same price as my GPU then xD
bald_pig Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Same price as my GPU then xD Not my fault you bought the wrong GPU 3
sted Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 isnt the biggest problem with amd video cards drivers though rather than hardware?
Dos_Box Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 The first real world 'look' at a Ryzen 5600X has just hit YouTube:
Dos_Box Posted November 5, 2020 Author Posted November 5, 2020 The review embargo is now lifted and the verdict is in. You will have to go and find out the results for yourselves of course! 1
sonofsanta Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Well. AMD are really on something of a roll, aren't they? https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2020-amd-ryzen-5900x-ryzen-5800x-review
DaveTheTech Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Just came here to post the LTT and GN links....but I was beaten to it. Having just watched LTTs, I might wait until team red release their new GPUs. An entire machine built using Team Red? Been a while since that made sense.

3s-gtech Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 It almost feels like 2006 again! Ahem...2003/2004/2005! Core2 came out in 2006, and rather spoilt the party! Athlon 64 4000+ with a Radeon 9800XT, and you were rolling!
