Graphics card recommendations.

Morning all,

 

Just looking for some graphics card recommendations so I can upgrade some of the teaching computers.

 

It needs:

• HMDI / VGA / DP (Needs two monitors connecting and a TV)
  
• Low profile (slim case)
  
• Cheap as possible
  

 

We were using ATI Radeon HD5450's but they are unable to display to the 3 outputs we need at the same time.

I've just bought half a dozen of those. Work well.

We have the GT710 in our office workstations purely because it can support 3 displays. It does the job perfectly well and it's cheap.

Do you have two slots available as one opening will be needed for the third graphic output. I'm not sure if either the suggested cards include the two low profile brackets, but without, it can bump up the cost.

oh man the gt710 is such a poor value card! But I understand you'll have trouble finding any modern card with a VGA output as they all don't support it. The built in vega APUs also do not support it if you go AMD btw!

 

Get something with an extra display port, these adapt to vga very well, as they're supposed to. (unlike iffy hdmi to vga)

 

I hate to say it but for your application the very poor GT710 is the best option.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into them but they seem like the right bit of kit for my needs.

I'd be buying up quadro 2000's, about £20 "refurb" on ebay

The 2000's are about £30 ex vat from Dave at the moment, although if you ask really nicely...

I'd wondered about Quadro's, but wasn't sure you can find a suitable low profile version?

There are lots of good low profile quadros. Problem is with hdmi.

 

Business class cards use displayport, because it's better as a rule.

However, those pesky interactive screen manufacturers fit hdmi connections which causes me all manner of headaches!

I've got some rooms with TVs and dual-screens. Got the teacher monitor on DisplayPort-DVI and the classroom monitor on VGA splitter from PC and to the monitor and TV.

Using the onboard graphics.

I'm with mhaddock on this. Dual output and then split one of the displays to the wall display.

This was to solve a problem with no freeze function on these particular TVs.

 

To be fair I got the idea from another poster on here in the last couple of years.

 

Tried getting staff to do Windows Key and P, got so many issues with it (staff forgetting, supply staff not knowing how to do it etc) I got fed up and trialled this setup out. Uses the hardware solution instead of software which from my experience is more reliable.
