Guest theeldergeek Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 We have a teacher asking about using a wireless microphone in the classroom so he can be heard.... Does anyone use this sort of thing and can recommend a system which would plug into the back of an existing Promethean installed amplifier?
laserblazer Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Some of our rooms have got proper PA amps with microphone inputs. I've lashed up a wireless system for a teacher who had a throat problem but it wasn't that easy to get it loud enough without feedback because of the speaker locations. I don't know the Promethean setup but if it doesn't have a microphone input you will probably need a preamp or mixer.

laserblazer Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 You could try something like Browse for Products | CPC which wouldn't break the bank but being VHF it is more susceptible to interference and there a limited number of channels. At least it would let you test the concept without breaking the bank.

There are only 4 licence-exempt UHF or five VHF channels for the UK. In real life, this is only likely to be a problem if you have a few around the school, or use them near your theatre during a musical.

Heh, I've got one of those voices thats great for that, did it across the theatre in London earlier in the year when I was down with the school and split in two groups, called across the place for them to stay seated and they all heard me right at the other side of the theatre, so did all the rest of the patrons hehe, done it a few times on fire drills at work as well and its always been benificial. But can only do it a few times before my voice starts going.

Chuck them an email if you are interested as I am sure they would be happy to send them out. Ours are RF based and we have 22 of them running in close proximity. With careful placement and configuration there is no crossover or interference generated by having them close to each other.

They give even sound across the room (teacher doesnt have to shout & strain their voice) so all children can hear. It has been proven to improve results in the US. Promethean now have a system (Activ Sound) & SMART do too.
