Console cable for APC NMC2 AP9630

Hi All, I have an APC AP9630 Network Management Card 2 Network NIC for an APC UPS I need to get running again.

 

I'm struggling to find a console cable for the Network Management card though to configure the initial settings in the UK.

 

According to https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156064/ it's a 940-0299 cable. A "940-0299 Tip, Ring Sleeve (TRS) to DB9 cable and connect it directly to the NMC2 into the 2.5mm jack labeled "console"We don't have a cable for this.

 

I've looked in all the usual places online, but I'm struggling to find one.

 

Has anybody got any joy in finding one of these cables anywhere in the UK? Or does anyone have one they no longer need?

Can't you just use DHCP + wizard? That article is designed really badly, but it seems they're splitting down the individual resolutions per model of card, so says Card 2 should work with DHCP and then could use the wizard?

 

Or have you got it setup in such a way you can't use that?

It's an older card I found in a drawer, with no records etc. Plugs into the UPS but doesn't connect, doesn't seem to get an IP/connection.

 

The DHCP was my first thought, but as we're an RM school we don't have direct access to the DHCP server itself. This is something I wanted to see if we could get using for an older server and UPS if it works.

 

The console cable seemed a nice easy way to connect to it directly as with some old Netgear switches in the past using Serial-USB.

 

I will give the Wizard a try though - good call.

Ah, guessing yeah might be settings already on it then

 

In theory though that cable despite it's fancy name is just a standard 2.5mm to RS232 isn't it? If you get a cheapy one to try it

Any way of hard resetting it and get rm to look at the dhcp logs?

I saw this one, wasn't sure to be honest but might be worth a punt for that price. Will ask if we can try this or buy it and claim it back on expenses otherwise.

 

These cables seem as rare as hen's teeth!

 

It's an old APC Smart UPS 1000 with serial and USB. The UPS itself works fine. The USB works fine on a PC, don't have a serial cable for it and won't bother to be honest,. But it's the port on the NMC I don't have a cable for. There's a few options left at the moment to try. Not given up just yet!

APC do a application called the Device IP Configuration Wizard, as long as the Client where running the app from is on the same vlan it should find it, I guess it works by searching on a layer 2 (mac address) basis. I've used it a few times.
