Email Archiving, how do you do it, suggestions?

A law was passed (last year I believe) that requires our school to keep a record of all incoming and outgoing emails for no less than 90 days.

 

If you already do this, what product or method do you use to achieve this?

Our school has been doing it since 2001, we just use a special mailbox that makes a copy of each messages and archive the messages at the end of the month using outlook. Simple but it works

That's not a bad idea actually. I think there is a Journaling option in Exchange. I should look into that. Thanks!

Also 90 days doesnt seem too bad. Not as bad as the 2-3 years I had heard about. Maybe I should just set up an auto-delete to get rid of anything 90 days old

I thought it was more than 90 days also - i've had a quick look about and cant find confirmation as to how long the archiving should take place for.

 

If anybody has a link to the info that would be good.

To be honest I don’t have the foggiest it was setup before I started. I can ask the old Network Manager. If someone sends me an e-mail on Monday to remind me to ask him.

For exchange it's a process called journaling, we're going to be using it on our student emails in a few months, and it never occurred to me to use this to keep a copy of all staff emails also.

They say it can add additional stress to the CPU and the network, but I don’t think 250 users is going to tank mine (I hope ).

 

The 90 days is in Colorado (u.s.), and I'm almost certain it's only 90 days.
