gh5000 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Trying to keep the family in touch with 98 year old grandma during lockdown. We did start with an old iPad 2 with a SIM card and Skype but there are generally too many variables for her to deal with. I think because of the old iOS we cant get auto answer on Skype. We've now got some broadband in her house so looking for best options. Initial thoughts were either an Amazon show or Google Nest Hub but never used them and wondered how easy it would be for her. I don't think voice commands would be an option! I did think of using an old laptop or Windows tablet that we could all control with TeamViewer and answer the calls for her,, show her pictures online etc. Any ideas?
jslate1980 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 What about a portal by Facebook. My uncle bought my grandad one last month. Seems easy to setup and video chat through messenger. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portal-Facebook-Hands-Free-Calling-Built/dp/B07XY7NRH5
MatthewL Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Facebook Portal looks a good option, can use WhatsApp to.
LeMarchand Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Bonus Daughter 1 + 2 got their Nanna a cheap mobile and set it up with What'sApp, which even she managed to use. It did take her an age to get her WiFi password, though!
