Should I Cancel? Gym no go

I've only half heartedly been going to the gym for the last few months but now that I'm probably not going for 2+ months should I cancel? That is going to cost me £60 for Gym time I'm not even half using.

 

Feel like a bit of a heel doing so though.

 

Anyone cancelling, anything else?

Check the T&C; I thought gyms had various restrictions on cancellations. That said, unless they're prepared to give membership extensions for the period they're closed for, why pay them? I'd cancel.

 

I've cancelled Spotify Premium (cos I'm tight and will wait for the next offer) and probably my comics sub as they're just piling up, but nothing for Covid-related reasons.

I've done my 1 year contract and pay monthly, I could just cancel the DD. I phoned and a nebulous message about not cancelling but with no info on a fee freeze.

Mine has done the same. Which is strange for them as normally they dont do anything nice!

Mine has paused everyone's subscriptions, but then asked if we wanted to un-pause them to give them an income. I agreed - while I'm getting paid, I don't need to be cutting back like that.

You agreed to continue paying for a service they aren't providing you (and won't be for the foreseeable future)

 

I thought the government have guaranteed to offer loans to business to cover closure periods and the jobs/income of staff? Seems odd they would ask gym members to provide what effectively would be donations. I'm assuming it's a local/community gym rather than one of the chains?

 

I sympathise with the staff in the sectors affected by this though (which is pretty much everything really). One good thing about the education sector is that you know that your job and income is relatively safe during any closure and that schools will eventually re-open. Must be a nervous time for many other workers and businesses who can't take those things for granted.

It’s a not-for-profit (Freedom Leisure) run in conjunction with the council. As well as the gym, they also provide the other facilities as part of our affiliated reduced rate membership. I don’t spend my money on much else, so I want to support them.

That makes sense if it's a not-for-profit service being provided to benefit the community

Same here. I am leaving mine running because I want to support them financially during all this. They have done so much for me and the community I think the least I can do is keep paying.

Most good gyms should give you a few options, ie pause, pay a reduce rate just to keep it active, another one is doing all money from your sub will go to help others

My gym (gym etc)has announced that they have frozen subscription charges for 2 months pending review for extension.

 

Are you not able to freeze your subscription temporarily. Tbh For £60 a month I’d cancel. I pay £20 and have access to well kitted out gym, relaxing pool, sauna, jacuzzi, etc
