Scanner That Can Scan To A Google Drive Folder?

Hello,

 

I am looking for a document scanner for home use. The ideal scanner in my mind will:

 

1. Scan the documents and deposit the files into a Google Drive folder. No need to actually use a computer to power it.

2. Not flat bed (they are too slow). One of those that feeds paper.

3. WIFI

4. Small footprint

5. Can scan both sides of the paper (ideal not but a deal breaker.)

 

Does such a thing exist please?

Yeah, we use Papercut with our Ricoh MFDs to do this. I believe Ricoh have tools to do this without Papercut too. We use the Ricoh IM C300.

 

EDIT: Just noticed that this is for home, so I doubt you're wanting to spend £3k+ on a printer lol. I believe HP have this capability on their web connected HP printers too. Their Envy range at least has it.

Can you use a PC in the middle, so sync Google to the PC then use a scanning program to scan to that folder? Not really what your after but it should work.

Yes for everything, except the first point...

If you have a NAS that can upload files to Google Drive (e.g. Synology) you could get the scanner to save the documents to a network share so the scanner itself doesn't need to do it.

(Fujitsu) Scansnap iX1500? Not 100% sure you can totally operate w/o a computer, but they're proper document scanners, about the size of a small inkjet printer, do duplex scanning, and are available in wifi flavours. They can be set up to save whatever you scan e.g. as PDFs directly to Google Drive. We used to have some of the older model ones around here - I've not got any first-hand experience w/ the current iX1500 ones. Edited March 3, 2020 by edmokeski

+1 for the Scansnap ix1500. You can use it with just a mobile phone, does duplex scanning and is pretty easy thus far. Scansnap Home even tries to organise the files.... Plus if you buy it now you can claim a free portable scanner from their site. Not sure if it will work quite as easily (havent received it yet) but something for nothing isnt bad.

if you can't get the functionality you want could you have the scanner send an email instead?

 

This is a bit round about but in the O365 environment the "Drive" also has an attachments folder, to see all email attachments. if similar is available on Google this might get you 90% of what you need.
