Also keep in mind bandwidth limitations of your PCI bus when using these. Especially the GigE variants.

Have just finished setting up one of these (I'm typing this on it) for my sister with XP SP3 on. Just got the Belkin Wireless card left to install and for a damn good price they have a decent home PC

 

The only additions are a PCI-E graphics and a SB Audigy 2 (plus their wireless card).

 

Their home PC was BSODing and then I finished it off by flashing the BIOS with the wrong firmware

I got a ML110, have added another same spec hard drive and 4gig of ram.

 

Should be a good box to play with, will probably run as a Sophos/WSUS/WDS server with spare hard drives holding shadow copies of all files.

 

Just shy of £400 with vista home oem license. (I have a schools agreement)

Moving one of these to a different case, but the mobo doesnt have any printed labels for which order the power led, power switch, and the other plugs go.

 

Anyone know what manufacturer of motherboard it is so I can look up what order the plugs are ?

Just a quick question from those in the know..

 

Do the Proliants have a special PSU in them like many Dells do nowadays?

 

I ask because our ML110 has a PSU that is buzzing away, thanks, I think to a poor fan which is catching something or is just out of whack.. I have a replacement PSU to hand but don't want to learn the hard way about any proprietary PSU's as my father did with a Dell.

@ John & Gibbo: Ok guys... thanks for that... I think I'm going to pull it on MOnday and take a very long look at the wiring and compare.

 

I just know that the Dell PSU's are now using a standard ATX plug but the wiring is different so if you use them in a standard rig or a standard PSU in a Dell you can end up with lots of interesting noises, smells and then a hunk of useless computer.
