Most of the schools i support run sims the ones that dont are all 1 mat and they stipulate scholar pack. they took on a new school a month or 2 ago and within weeks sims was gone

Kelechi93 Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 (edited) Our new Head has kicked off a process of evaluating our MIS options, and he's come from a SIMS school so I know he's keen on it. I'm massively concerned that we'd be fools to go from the 20-year old FacilityCMIS to the 16 year old SIMS 7 when we're committing for a decade (no way I want to do this project more than that), and as much as SIMS were keen to impress upon us that SIMS 8 is Coming Soon™, I can't help but suspect that "January 2021" was not their first target date. Can anyone who's been talking to SIMS longer let me know how much they've slipped from the first date, i.e. how likely they are to keep slipping? What's the oldest date anyone has been promised for a SIMS 8 launch? (We're a state secondary, FWIW, as I know they're launching with primaries first) SIR..... Meanwhile, after about 3-4 years we are still suffering with the same memory issues with sims. We are at the point that Capita have us doing the same things again for about the 3rd or 4th time. And their response is "we can't do any more until you get them done"... with no concern over the impact of our staff... Wouldn't surprise me if the delay has anything to do with how little fuss it would be to switch MIS from one to another when they all go cloud based.

If you read Capita's annual report it says they moved all software development abroad for "cost synergies", that explains the delay, nothing else. We're jumping ship.
Damon Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 It was meant to be far earlier than that originally. It's slipping like a dodgy clutch. No council I've ever worked in or with has top sliced School funding for MIS. They foot the bill then recharge the schools.

It's jumped out of the water, hit the bank and is now flailing around in the mud and slowly suffocating. They announced SIMS Primary on November 15th 2017 and it's still not generally available. 2 years, 9 months and 24 days. 3

To put that into some context, around the same time as Lyft, Wish.com. VoxMedia, SnapChat, Slack, Spotify and Uber. Amazing really isn't it? 1

Next Generation SIMS | ESS SIMS (ess-sims.co.uk) I think the key word there is "begin" The rest of the blog seems designed to scare people into staying with Sims from what I read. I proufoundly disagreed with the points about disruption and costs associated with Moving. Our experience is the complete opposite with no real disruption and costs remaining broadly similar. We ended up with a better system and all the planning and worry about moving feels like a distant memory now. It just worked and staff had no issue learning a new system. EDIT: Whats worrying is they seem to be talking about a hybrid cloud approach. Does that mean remote desktop into sims like some companies like PS financials do? Does it mean a sync between on-premis or hosted versions. Does it just mean a layor on top of the local legacy Sims database. None of those options seem appealing and it shows the issues you have with legacy hosted software where you don't want to alienate current customers but it makes it increbibly hard to innovate.
