Janyo Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 We are about to sign with LGfL/TRUSTnet as we're not happy with our current provider. We are happy with their quote and their package. Our IT technician only works 1 day a week so we don't have that much support. Is there anything we should be considering/aware of before sending all the forms? Thanks
fiza Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 We are with LGfL and have been for last 7 years. Never had any regrets. With @JohnJackson at the helm things have only got better. 1

BKGarry Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 This is one of the suppliers I am looking at, just awaiting a quote to come through. Just want to see what they are like compare to our LEA offering
chris_uk Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Cracking service, the support team are awesome. I think in the however many years we have been with them we have had a total of a few hours down time. Filtering is great. We are just waiting for our upgrade to come through.
FishCustard Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 They used to be very "we know what's best" and inflexible in terms of filtering/firewall exceptions, and a remnant of this attitude is still there occasionally. However, they are much better than they used to be, and for schools without a full time tech they are a very good option. 1

Total inflexibility and unwillingness to listen to their customers. However, under the leadership of @JohnJackson they are a totally different entity to the experience of yesteryear and are very open to feedback from their customers and the value add that they are giving back to schools! 1
FishCustard Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Yes, I was the same and would recommend that schools with full-time IT departments avoid them at all costs. Not any longer! 1
Wave9_Lee Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Do you still need to re-address your internal network?
Janyo Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Thanks to you all for your valid contributions!
SchoolsBroadband Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 (edited) I may be wrong but dont you also have to use their uso and other auth tools and run it their way rather than how you may want to? Someone from lgfl can confirm I think. Dave Edited November 15, 2019 by Zoom7000
Janyo Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Do you still need to re-address your internal network? Thank you wave9 for your quote and interest in delivering the VOIP but the trusthave decided to go with BT voice cloud although they're still waiting for the response from LGfL to see if there would be any compatibility issues.
gh5000 Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 @SchoolsBroadband Depends what services you use. Most secondaries I deal with only USO for staffmail and student email. We have one that I've not had to give out USO because they use Gmail. That's mainly because there are no USO services provided that are worth using/wanting to be used in a secondary. So USO use is restricted to a few staff if for that Gmail school. That used to be a financial problem for secondaries in my opinion where it wasn't "worth it" compared to a broadband package of some variety. In the last few years it has got much better financially with Meraki, Neverware, Adobe etc available for free. It's still a case of if you can make use of a good amount of the bundled services then you are getting value for money. Add in the training available, resources etc it's not half bad 1
