mikkydoos Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Hi all, I'm after some advice on MDM's - I'm managing a stack of iPads and a small handful of Androids. I'm over subscribed with the number of iPad devices I'm currently managing with Meraki. I'm on the freebie subscription... so 100 device limit I think (although I've enrolled more... not sure whats going on there ! ) Anyway, Meraki is waaayyy to expensive to buy, and it's a bit cr@p tbh. Mixed experiences with it. Who's using a better alternative. What, why and how much? Looking for some opinions and experiences please. I'd appreciate some comments. Cheers in advance
DalekSec Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 We use Mosyle here, Setup about a year ago, relatively cheap, easy to setup and does everything i need it to! Not has any real issues with it since, and they keep adding more features monthly pretty much! 1
tmoon-mint Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 If you need something that can manage both iOS and Android I would be looking at something like Lightspeed. 1
AJB123 Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 We use the Free version of Mosyle and it's very good, once locations and restrictions are setup we just use Apple Configurator 2 to enrol the iPads. 1
mikkydoos Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 I need something that will DEP, device assign apps, location track, add profiles, remote wipe / lock / kill. Its all mainly IOS tbh but Android would be a plus. Anyone using Jamf ?
DalekSec Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Anyone using Jamf ? Jamf is the best MDM no doubt about it, but the price is a lot compared to it's competitors. Ours was looking at £3k+ (You have to pay for training etc.), where as Mosyle is costing us around £180 a year. 10 Macs and around 40 iPads 1
mikkydoos Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 Cheers @DalekSec Does Mosyle support device assigned apps?.. for DEP.... to push apps without apple id's I have 150 ipads so Meraki and Jamf is more like 4.5K for me.
DalekSec Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Cheers @DalekSec Does it support device assigned apps?.. for DEP.... to push apps without apple id's Yes it does, we have it tied in to VPP (Looking to move this over to ASM at some point) and it can deploy apps without the iPad being signed in to an apple id. 1
mikkydoos Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 I need something that will DEP, device assign apps, location track, add profiles, remote wipe / lock / kill. @DalekSec All of this is covered then I presume ...
DalekSec Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 @DalekSec All of this is covered then I presume ... Yepp I think they do a free trail, well they did when i was trailing it last year 1
mikkydoos Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 I'll have a good look at Mosyle. Cheers @DalekSec
Wubbalubbadub Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Take a look into InTune. I think it's really good, and its cost effective. Can be managed within office 365. 1

Particularly VPP Device Assignment. The main problem Im running into with legacy/free Meraki is that I need apple ID's on all the 'pads to install remotely and its a mega pain in the ****.

colly72 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I put a post on here about ManageEngine MDM, some time ago. They do a free edition for 25 devices but you can can up to 75 free using their invite scheme. I'm sure you can then upgrade to more licenses when you reach that limit: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/205491-manageengine-mdm-25-devices-free-plus-10-more-free-each-invite.html 1
mikkydoos Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 @DGardiner Y I've been looking at that. Is that literally that you can only send commands one device at a time ? That would be shocking.
DGardiner Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 @DGardiner Y I've been looking at that. Is that literally that you can only send commands one device at a time ? That would be shocking. I cant remember if it was certain commands or any bulk proccess but yeah - its an annoyance when you dont have it - not that you need it often, but when you want to force a refresh instead of waiting for daily checkin its a killer 1
1TF0rward Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I'd recommend Itarian. Formally known as Comodo One. Has all the features you are looking for a pretty easy setup! 1
Brimstone Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 (Looking to move this over to ASM at some point). If you've not done this yet you have about 50 days to move over to ASM... https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209617 1
Brimstone Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Take a look into InTune. I think it's really good, and its cost effective. Can be managed within office 365. Intune is at best shockingly bad, it doesn't support Shared iPad or Apple Classroom... 2

DalekSec Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Intune is at best shockingly bad, it doesn't support Shared iPad or Apple Classroom... Also agree with this, Intune is no where near the requirements for iOS or macOS management at the moment. Manager asked me couple months back at looking to move all our apple devices from Mosyle to Intune, to which i said no, gave him a list of reasons why and said if we're moving them across i'm not doing it. 1
XiJ Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 We still use the free version of meraki and push device-based vpp apps without the Requirement to be signed in. However I’d go mosyle. The free tier is very good for iOS. The premium is worth it for MacOS but less so iPads - for low numbers anyway. Brilliant product tho. 1
mikkydoos Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 I've looked at Intune. Fine for inventory. Nothing else. I have too many rotting eggs the M$ basket as it is Yep. I sorted ASM ages ago. VPP is nearly gone. Thank God. Doing a trial of Moysle today. Looks OK. Meraki reseller quoted me nearly 5K yesteday.. !... for 150 ipads !

May I ask what the reasons were? We are looking at this too. 1
