Brimstone Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 We still use the free version of meraki and push device-based vpp apps without the Requirement to be signed in. However I’d go mosyle. The free tier is very good for iOS. The premium is worth it for MacOS but less so iPads - for low numbers anyway. Brilliant product tho. The reason you can use device assigmments is down to when you signed up for Meraki, older legacy Meraki instances don't have the device assignment feature and can only upgrade to a paid version to get this. 1
DalekSec Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 May I ask what the reasons were? We are looking at this too. Very quick and very vague; Lack of restrictions, Lack of customisation, lack of integrations and ease of use. I went through and compared apples with apples (pun intended), I did have a document with a list of things that Intune doesn't do that Mosyle does but i can't seem to find it, as i think i wrote it down! Saying that just because Intune doesn't do what i want it to do, doesn't mean i doesn't do what you want! But i'd still avoid it for iOS and MacOS devices, for MacOS it's basically non-existent. 2
mikkydoos Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 (edited) Guys, can you help please.... How do you add a DEP'd device to Mosyle? I've created a test Location in ASM, sorted a VPP token, assigned a couple of apps, and the two are syncing nicely. I've assigned one DEP'd ipad to that Location in ASM but can't see in Mosyle where to sync the devices. (Is it Management/Apple Apps & Books (VPP) I did it yesterday but now can't find it again !!! If I try to select 'VPP Device assignment' under 'Licenses/Purchase method' in System Manager/Apps/ *MyApp* it pops up a window to buy licensed.

(Is it Management/Apple Apps & Books (VPP) I did it yesterday but now can't find it again !!! you need to setup an MDM server in ASM - this connects mosyle to ASM/DEP and assign the devices to that DEP server. once it syncs, factory reset the ipad and it should auto enroll into mosyle https://manager.mosyle.com/get-started/integrate-asm-with-mosyle-manager 1

mikkydoos Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 Ah... got you @Brimstone. Sorry, missed that one.
mikkydoos Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 you need to setup an MDM server in ASM. Yeah did that. When I perform a VPP/Apps & Books sync it's just hanging for ages. Probably Apple playing up. As I said it worked yesterday but not today. This ipad is fresh out of the box and DEP'd - assigned to Mosyle MDM in ASM.

I assume you have added your tax info into setting in Apps and Books, you need to add your VAT number. 1

It is a purely an Apple MDM. Hopefully this wont have much of an impact on you as I saw you mention a few Android tablets. 1
mikkydoos Posted October 16, 2019 Author Posted October 16, 2019 Y theyre just phones tbh. Only a small handfull and I don't need to manage them particularly. @dalecSec ...... Cheque is in the post Ta m8. 1
Brimstone Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Cheers @DalekSec Does Mosyle support device assigned apps?.. for DEP.... to push apps without apple id's I have 150 ipads so Meraki and Jamf is more like 4.5K for me. I dunno who you are asking to quote for Jamf, but they are seriously trying to rip you off, for that many devices the cost of Jamf included 2 x remote days is under 1.5k
mikkydoos Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 I dunno who you are asking to quote for Jamf, but they are seriously trying to rip you off, for that many devices the cost of Jamf included 2 x remote days is under 1.5k Yep. That was from the Cisco cost calculator. I've had a reseller quote for 1.6K. Still wwaaayyy too much.

I didnt know this at the time and got in touch with someone from jamf an had this transfered to my preferred supplier eventually though

That's (does quick maths in his head) 6 years of Mosyle licensing for us, as we only pay £250 a year
jnfarmer Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Take a look into InTune. I think it's really good, and its cost effective. Can be managed within office 365. I second InTune, ties nicely in to O365 if you have it. Need to invest a bit of time to get it all set up and working properly but it's not bad.
karldenton Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 We use Sophos Central mobile to manage our fleet of iPads. Nice and simple and does the job
mikkydoos Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 Now an annoying thing.... Just got our first Gen 7 Ipad... When DEP'd, won't allow supervision .... without supervision, won't let me add my WiFi profile ... gggrrrrr Gen 6's are ok
Brimstone Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 You likely need a new trusted cert... https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT210176
mikkydoos Posted October 21, 2019 Author Posted October 21, 2019 You likely need a new trusted cert... The Gen 6's are running the same OS and they're fine. I'll look into it tho'. They're both fresh out of the box.

mikkydoos Posted October 21, 2019 Author Posted October 21, 2019 if theyre DEP'd and setup in mdm to supervise they should do that automatically? Yep. This is AC2. Wont install the profile on Gen 7
DGardiner Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Yep. This is AC2. Wont install the profile on Gen 7 to use configurator with MDM supervised ipads you need the supervision identity loaded into the MDM to approve it to talk to AC2.
