So my wifi is happily ticking along, but it's five years old now and my 5 years support contract is just about to end, I'm certainly sure I could extend the life for a bit longer.

At what point do you guys say 'time to upgrade your wifi infrastructure'?

We renewed our ZD3050 support for a further 3 years until the hardware is EoL, as we have some access points that are not supported on the newer SmartZone.

I'd say to start looking at upgrading when capacity is starting to get hit, or there has been a major shift to faster standards (such as the move from g to n)

I'm in a similar position with our ZD1100 but it works great, so I don't really wanna drop thousands on a new system right now. I might put it in next years budget though....

Depends on how mission critical it is counted as. We are in a similar boat and were investigating what to do. We've found if we upgrade we have to upgrade a load of our APs too as they are no longer supported by newer offerings.

11k to replace, with an ongoing cost of £900.

Maybe next year.

I'm in exactly the same situation, have a limited amount in the budget for replacement this year, but not intending to do it unless it goes wrong. Obviously would have to be an incredibly rushed job to replace if it does fail, but chances are very low, and it's adequate for need at the moment. I have only called support once about it in 5 years of having it.

Me too!!

Just had a quote of about £4k to renew support for three years and a quote of about £15k to replace AP and move to ruckus cloud.

I have never called support, so we are playing to wing it and worse case replace with Unifi AP's if it all goes wrong.

As others have said the ZoneDirector 3000 has gone EOL, but will continue to be supported until 2023 and supports up to firmware version 10.2 which support all the latest Aps.

Those that have ZoneDirector 3000s - you have a few options depending on what APs you have. If you have the 7363/7372 and budget is tight i'd suggest to stick with what you have. The most logical move is the virtual SmartZone/SmartZone appliance, but these older APs aren't compatible which makes it a more expensive upgrade as you would have to look at upgrading your AP estate as well. Do speak to your Ruckus partner though as there are upgrade promotions available - if you don't have a partner, or happy to speak to another please let me know and we can assist.

That being said, even if you want to just let us know what you have and what your options are, please send me a PM. No obligations, just here to help.

Ruckus Cloud has had some considerable development on it - it certainly has a use-case but is more expensive than the virtual SmartZone/SmartZone solutions but does mean you don't have to worry about the upkeep etc.

Those on the 1100 series - we'd recommend looking at the Unleashed portfolio it now supports up to 50 APs and is a great fit for smaller deployments.
