One of our hedgehogs is nesting, but she doesn’t seem to have decided where. She was back and forward for about an hour between us, next door and the garden behind us.

We've finally had someone checking our birdbox.

 

 

The nesting material went in there over winter(?) and I'm sure that there are normally eggs by now, as I thought they normally hatch over Easter. Yes, I have since corrected the date/time.

First bit of news is that our first red mason bee has emerged from its cocoon. Males emerge first apparently

 

A fox visited our pond

 

And the arrival of a new male has sparked a war.

 

The opening salvo trashed the feed station

 

And a subsequent encounter nearly knocked the camera over

We have pyracanthas in the front garden, much favoured by sparrows throughout their year.

 

Looking out of the front window, I can get quite close without them seeming to notice or care much.

 

I have seen one this morning coming into its adult feathers, with many of the downy young feathers still evident and, apparently, very irritating!

The dominant hog in our garden abandoned the cat biscuits to go bowling last night and then spent a good 5 minutes trying to shove his victim under the fence.

Baby bird season has started at the rescue. I was feeding them every 30 minutes on my shift this morning

A bit of a scuffle on the side of our pond last night led to first one then two hedgehogs swimming. The fence is to stop a neighbour’s cat playing with the frogspawn. I have now added a brick in the water between the two sections to enable easier exit. Everywhere else in the pond has easy exit.
