Or neighbour came round in great excitement to say we have a young golden pheasant visiting our gardens. We get the normal pheasants quite often but never seen the golden type before!IMG_20220404_152743485~2.jpg

Probably an escape from someone’s aviary. They’re not supposed to be roaming wild!

Our blue tits are hatching. Four chicks so far this afternoon[emoji4]

And the Red Mason bees are making babies (ba-bees?) too. She’s a big girl! He’s tiny by comparison. His pale moustache stands out.

Can I be the first to say there's a thread for that sort of thing :p?

I finally had a bit of time to sort out our camera after an IP range change, but was getting a bizarre picture. On physical inspection (from the far corner of the courtyard) it seems as if someone has decided to mess around with the siting of the box/camera. Can't do anything about it until later in the year in case it's in use.

Before we went away we had 7 tiny Blue Tit beaks in our camera box. We returned to just one last Sunday. On Monday we had heavy rain most of the day and the parents stopped visiting, presumably unable to find food, and that chick died too.

It’s incredibly tough for tits to raise young. Our camera box record for the last 5 years…

2018: Male disappeared. Nest failed.

2019: Very wet weather. Nest failed.

2020: Didn’t finish building the nest.

2021: Didn’t finish building the nest.

2022: Very wet weather. Nest failed.

I have noticed a distinct lack of small birds in the garden this summer

Last year - and the years before - we have had robins, sparrows and several other birds around - but this year it has just been the normal pigeons and magpies

and also just the normal pigeons and none of the beige small ones

anyone else seen this?
