hows that work I thought ISDN was always a 2 channel product unless it was ISDN30 which you buy in more as you need over about 6 or 8 (can never remember which) its more cost effective and flexible than ISDN2E

ISDN30 starts with a minimum of 8 channels so i'd imagine it increments in 8's rather than 6's until you need to go from 24 to 30.

 

steve is actualy in a good positin having two isdn30's of 16 channels each (or one with 24 and the other with 8) however it's carved up....it's not horrifically expensive and he has room for expansion without having to provision brand new lines.

 

I personally woud jump striaght into the minimum isdn 30 product if i needed more than 4 channels on the trunk side....as you say more flexible and cost effective, i'd feel 2 line/4 channels is the most i'd go to with 2e...anything beyond that i'd make the case for the 8 channel isdn30 product.

We definitely don't have any 2 channel ISDN (at least not connected to the phones - there are several of them that BT/Thus use for monitoring our LES circuits and for companies that use them for remote support) but our phone system is connected to an ISDN 30 but there is also an ntl/Telewest line (DASS??) which can provide another 15 channels as overflow for outgoing calls (I think - I don't really get involved that much with this bit of the phone system)

Sounds like you've just got a second isdn30 line, except it's supplied by telewest, not BT.

 

Both BT and telwest ISDN30 products will use DASS II, which is the UK specifiec PRI standard. I think the reason you may have 15 channels is that for UK isdn-PRI channel's 16 and 30 are the bearers.

See it wasn't me being stupid! I know ISDN30 starts at 8 channels - looks to the wall and spots the nice ISDN30 box - isn't it spookey how BT use the same NTE unit for many many different uses - ISDN30, Leased Line, VPN Connection that I had in my last place to the county etc it must be a very adapable NTE!

 

Anyway glad we got that one sorted
