MK-2 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I'm on an 18month O2 contract which ends the start of July. According to O2 emails when I've asked, I can only upgrade in the last month, so June. Now last week i went into carphone warehouse to look at the new phones on offer, and the manager there said he used to work for O2 and the upgrade time is dependant on your tariff. He said £35 or above and its 2 months just O2 wont tell you that. I picked up the CW brochure to look through and left. In the brochure it lists all providers and all contracts and when they can be upgraded, and it specifically states O2 18month is 16month upgrade, meaning May. I still have the emails from O2 customer support (oxymoron?) stating that I cannot upgrade until June. Anybody else ever had dealings with O2 on this matter? I'm asking mainly cos the replacement phone they sent me for my knackered phone is now dying itself and if I need to wait another month to upgrade they can send me ANOTHER replacement for this!!!
mac_shinobi Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Was just curious if the iphone ( even though they are bring out a newer version ) was one of the upgrades ? Also can you pm me when the new iphone comes out and let me know more info regarding pricing and if they will let you upgrade to the newer iphone ?
MK-2 Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 i got no idea if the iphone is one of the upgrades as they never actually talk to me about upgrades, they just say sorry until june 5th you cannot upgrade, but we are pleased you want to stay with us.............i've given no assurances yet!!
Guest Guest Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Id urge you to have a look at PAYG tarrifs, theres some crackers out atm. O2 unlimited gives you unlimited txts and calls to other O2 for £15pm but you keep that £15 for calls and txts to other networks, plus you get 10% back every few months, plus you get freebies like discounted call to other networks. All my mates are on o2 so im well in and the envy of all my mates with their £40pm for 18month contracts lol T-mobile also have some good deals. Cant remember exactly but something like 500mins, and several hundred txtxs to any network for £15.
Zoom7000 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Not entirely sure about the upgrade period, but whatever it is you choose to do, shop around! Can't stress this enough. Use moneysupermarket.com to help. However, you're with O2 and have been on what they consider a premium contract. Anything over £35/month. I was on O2 for 18 months, £35/month Nokia N73 400mins 100txts Cashback deal with Mobileshop.com. My upgrade with O2 was in February and after much haggling and giving them the statutory "give me the best phone I want for as little money as I want to pay or stuff your contract", they gave me the latest Nokia N82 (worth £400 at the time!) for free 600mins 500txts £35/month for 18 months with £10 discount/month for the duration of the contract. So £25/month for 18 months no hassle, no cashback, sweet and simple! Either way, follow the guidelines over at Money Saving Expert these guideline work superbly and I have got family and friends some brilliant deals by being stern. Make sure you haggle, you'll be surprised how low they can go to keep you! If you do decide to leave and go for a cashback deal, I'd suggest to go for a major company only. e2save, Carphone Warehouse or Phones4u. Don't be tempted by cheap offers from non major companies, chances are they will go bankrupt, it's happened to at least 4 companies lately. Also, sign up online, try going through Quidco you can earn cashback if you place an order online after clicking through the site, so you can't go wrong. Money to be made on your shopping!
Edu-IT Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 You can upgrade in the last month of your contract. If your monthly bill is regularly greater than £40, or you are a member of O2 Select, you may be eligible for an early upgrade, please call us. Does this apply to you? 01226 784068 is their phone number.
philtomo-25 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 yeah it is different, if you phone up its 1month but 2month if you go to carphone warehouse. why? i dont know, maybe CW doing this so they can get more business? my dad did the same thing last week, but i dont know why its different
MK-2 Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 Well I just got my reply from O2. In my question I asked how come Carphone say I can upgrade 2 months prior and o2 only 1 month. The response? Thank you for enquiring about upgrading your phone and renewing your contract. All O2 customers can only upgrade in the final month of their contract regardless of them being a store customer or online customer. Please contact our upgrades department if you need any more help. Absolutely useless. Why bother asking questions if all they will do is pick out one keyword and reply to that keyword.
Inbir316 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 phone o2 directly and go for the upgrade service that way....give it a try and fi they say sorry you cant upgrade til so and so tell them otherwise and say you have details from the shop?! im on an 18 month contract...got the phone back in november..and a free ps3
reilly2k Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 they do give you a new phone with 2months left, once i wanted to cancel my contract because orange was doing unlimited text and 02 wasnt at the time. i complained and wanted to leave at which point i had 2 months left or even 3 months, they didnt want to lose me as a customer to a rival operator so they offered me a new phone and a better contract. just say you want to leave because orange or vodafone have better contracts with better phones, they might ask you what phone it is you want from that other company, say the one you want and they should give it to you. good luck!!
reilly2k Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 also i want to to get the new 3g iPhone which is coming out july 11 but i have 5months left!!! i might phone them up myself to see what they can do
Dafty Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I have been an O2 iPhone customer since they were launched. But I would deffinalty like the new 3G iPhone. I had heard that anyone with a top level, current iPhone tarrif gets the new 3G one for free. Although I am not too sure as to the accuracy of this information.
reilly2k Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 yeh i read that as well its on the o2 web site but i didnt get the iphone when it first came out because i thought i would wait till the 3g one came out.............. how im eating my word now!!!
Edu-IT Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Great news that the iPhone is coming to PAYG. I imagine that it'll work out quite expensive though.
