Guest Guest Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 We're running Paxton Net2 V6 on Windows Server 2012 R2 and over the summer I'd like to upgrade as many of our Servers as Possible to Server 2016. I'd rather does this as an in place upgrade due to the lack of availability of the installation files. Has anyone done this? If so did you experience any issues Apologies if this isn't in the correct section Any advice is greatly appreciated Thanks
FN-GM Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 As Paxton support for the installers. They will provide them. Update Net2 on the old server and then migrate it over to the new. I have done this a number of times and its easy. Paxton support will also provide advise. The version you have might have issues on 2016 so I would make sure Net2 is up to date anyway.
robyholmes Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 Yep Paxton Support will help, although you ideally still need an installer key to reinstall. Do you have a installation firm you use you could ask?
FN-GM Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 although you ideally still need an installer key to reinstall. It will reinstall any licences when you restore the backup.
ordeology Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 Hi We migrated to a new 2016 VM a few months ago back in Paxton were saying Net2 is unsupported on 2016 but they assisted us anyway and we can confirm it is all working fine. You can download the Paxton Net2 software from their website the only thing you will probably need support from them is transferring the license key over if you are using the pro version.
k-strider Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 mine is running on 2016 but im on v5.2 i am going to up it to 6 over the summer and id like to inplace upgrade the VM to 2019
localzuk Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 The process is fairly simple - you do a backup, install it, and restore the backup. You don't need license keys etc... as they come across in the backup.
Jcx500 Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) +1 this did this the same way and was up and running in no time (Migration from desktop to New vm) I Followed This guide https://www.paxtonaccess.ae/docs/Application%20Notes/AN1071-AE.pdf Edited July 5, 2019 by Jcx500
crc-ict Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 Just to echo what others have said, we've also done database backups then restores (from within Paxton) across different systems and the activation is restored with the database. No issues. Paxton support are excellent if you need them too.
Guest Guest Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 Seems simple enough. Do you backup the database within Net2 itself or backup the SQL database directly? Assuming the host name and IP address are the same should all doors just reconnect to the new server?
mukz Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 U backup and restore using the net2 configuration utility. The doors should just reconnect once everything has restored. You may have to go around and press the button on the wireless handles if you have those.
