kennysarmy Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 In a couple of weeks I have to collect my daughter from Heathrow Terminal 5 at about 10.30pm one evening. Any tips? Never been to the airport before and don't want to be stung for huge parking charges if necessary! She's been travelling light and will just have a back-pack.
hardtailstar Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Theres a short stay pick up/drop of that doesn't charge. Its literally right outside the entrance doors Ive been there a couple of times to pick up relatives.
Passat1983ICTech Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 best thing to do is park close by and when in arrivals can she text you or message you some how only way i can think
witch Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Google it and look for a local supermarket with car park - there is a Tesco I think not far away. My son parks there when he has to pick someone up and then when they ring, he comes to the pick-up point
AJWhite1970 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Tesco Express on Bath Road is where I go to wait, right at the end of the Eastern end of the runway

I do this regularly when my parents go abroad. If they are landing at 10:30pm, I will usually give them 45 mins to an hour to go through immigration and baggage collection before they are out of the airport and so I will usually arrive at the airport for 11:15pm or 11:30pm and pick them up from the drop off/pick up point directly outside the terminal which doesn't cost a penny. I've done this myself too when I've been on holiday with the family, I've parked my car in the long stay car parks, for which you need to take a shuttle bus. I've left the family with the baggage in the terminal and then taken the bus to pick up the car and then pick them up outside the terminal.
Andrew_C Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I can't remember what it cost to chuck it in the short stay for a few mins, but I wasn't horrified. Can't see any reference on the www, so may have changed.

Is it well signposted once I get within the airport boundary to the drop off / pick up point?
Andrew_C Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Is it well signposted once I get within the airport boundary to the drop off / pick up point?Yes and no; keep your wits about you as is is "busy" with signs, cars, pedestrians, etc. The signage is particularly "interesting" as there is an information overload.
kennysarmy Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 Just been looking on their website and it says you can park for 2 hours for free in the long term car park at t5. Is it viable to park their or is it a trek to the terminal? Parking prices Drive-up prices First day: £29.50 0-2 hours: Free Each additional 24-hour period or part thereof: £23.50
Andrew_C Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I can't work it out. I picked MrsC up at 5 in October, used the CP right by the terminal, and don't remember thinking "**** me! £ching for 20 mins!"
rad Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Where are you coming from? I would wait nearby and await a call once she has her bags and waiting just inside the pick up point zone (it is late at night so stay in the building till you are there) Avoid the local petrol stations and lay-bys, the local taxis do just this and there are restrictions in this area. If it were me, find somewhere busy like a McDonalds or park in the Tesco Extra car park in Staines. No where around there is an “amazing” place to visit.

Plane should land at 10.30 pm. Did n't think there was a pick up point zone - only a drop off or short stay parking option...
Andrew_C Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 There isn't an official "Pick Up". They really don't want anyone hanging around in the drop-off lanes, but if your passenger is ready, it wouldn't be a problem.
