witch Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Taking into consideration the comments from @GrumbleDook on the fact that it is not an absolute right to refuse to have my picture publicised, I will stand by my decision as I feel with the Public Task purpose so far given as safeguarding, my lack of interaction with children (and the fact I am either in my office or the server room 90% of the time) hopefully means that I am not needed to be identified by the general public (website) or parents/children/visitors (notice board). My thoughts exactly
GrumbleDook Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Well, it seems that photos and position of staff are still on the website with title and surname (even down to the cleaners... really?)! But the board in reception has now been changed to group photos for year or department (SLT, Admin, Family Workers, YEAR 3, 4 etc). Harder to keep relevant with all the staff changes recently... Up to date info...? Taking into consideration the comments from @GrumbleDook on the fact that it is not an absolute right to refuse to have my picture publicised, I will stand by my decision as I feel with the Public Task purpose so far given as safeguarding, my lack of interaction with children (and the fact I am either in my office or the server room 90% of the time) hopefully means that I am not needed to be identified by the general public (website) or parents/children/visitors (notice board). I can understand your position, but it might be the school's position that *all* staff should be easily identifiable ... The website, that is more difficult to justify, but internally within the school ... all staff should be identifiable, but I am aware that the size of the school is a factor here.

We have a folder on our intranet (as they used to be called!) which has everyone's staff ID photos and their names. As a new staff member, I find this really useful as I can check it following a conversation with someone to see who they were, or look someone up just before a meeting. 1

As someone who has to meet a lot of people throughout the year ... and someone who can be terrible for faces / names ... this sort of thing is so useful. LinkedIn has been my saviour on so many occasions.
elsiegee40 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 I refused as a staff member and as a governor to have my mugshot on the relevant school websites. Governors have to be named on the website along with their governance responsibilities, but no more personal information than that. As a staff member, I felt the less that sales drones knew about my existence... including my name... the better. 2

If someone phones the school and says "please can I speak to the IT Manager", they are put on hold for a moment then told I'm not available, but if someone asks for me by name, they might get put through (and I will then ask the receptionist to tell them I'm not available!). 3
mavhc Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 The sales drones will now follow you home, buzzing in the sky.

Shhh! That chap from February with the "energy saving" plugs may be about still. You don't want to be accused of stopping entrepreneurs from starting their businesses! 1

You don't want to be accused of stopping entrepreneurs from starting their businesses! Oh him! I wonder if he’s disposed of them now? Edited highlights... I might need to go sit on a lily pad for a while and reread that thread again. Ribbit! [emoji1] Edited June 27, 2019 by elsiegee40
enjay Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Oh, I wish I had time to read through that thread in full, it looks so much fun!
elsiegee40 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Oh, I wish I had time to read through that thread in full, it looks so much fun! Oh it’s worth it... it just kept getting better. That thread will go down in history like the one the year before by the FoI Warrior thwarted by the ICO

Maybe I'll bookmark the direct mailing one and work my way through it in short bursts when I fancy a moment of light relief...
pete Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 @GrumbleDook Say a school had said "We need to take your photo to use on ID badges, but we won't use them for anything else" to staff. Where would they stand regarding re-use in this manner? The basis for taking the photos (originally, years ago) was consent. We're not planning to do anything beyond the "here's the safeguarding team photo board" (and we sought permission again), but since you're here.... My position is the same as @elsiegee40 - the harder it is for a salesperson to discover who I am, the more work I can get done.
GrumbleDook Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Firstly, inform people what the purposes are, that the lawful basis has been updated and start the exercise again. If the purpose has expanded then you need to review and inform. Be prepared for objections but make sure you have your decision documented.
