Voip System for primary school

Hi Guys

 

We are trying to setup a VOIP system for one of our primaries.

 

Initially we were going to use Voiphone who told us everything would work the way we wanted but now we have purchased the 15 phones we find out they are unable to do this.

 

Basically we want :

 

3 Office phones ( able to dial out and receive and forward to class extnesions )

 

12 extensions ( unable to dial out but can receive forwarded calls from the main office ad call other class's/main office)

 

We have just purchased Snom handsets so we need a system that will work with this only

FreePBX will be able to do this.

 

You can use the FreePBX Distro that will install the OS and all the PBX software for you. It also has all the tools built in to update the PBX software and OS.

3CX should also do what you want.

 

I'm not sure if the free/standard version can do the groups and permissions like you want, but the paid versions will be able to do it. It wouldn't be too expensive for a system of that size if you had to go down the paid route.

Avaya IP Office is good. But at a cost. However after sale support is good.

We are also looking at this, but SLT want to buy the system in for disaster recovery purposes. We are currently looking at Hello Telecoms, anyone heard of them or any reviews?

All those kind of people just resell someone else's system, usually Gamma Horizon, might as well go direct.

 

You get charged per extension with a hosted voip system, whereas when you host it yourself you're charged per simultaneous call (channel), which makes it basically free. £5/month/channel with almost infinite free calls.

 

I mostly ignored Hello Telecom because they couldn't get their area code correct in their email signature, not a good start for a telephone company.

What do you mean by this? Do you mean so you have someone on the end of a phone if things go wrong? If so, there are companies that offer support for 3CX. There's even some that host it for you. I know one company that charges £38pm for the 8 concurrent call version, plus your SIP trunks/calls on top.

this is what we do. its worked out well for us.

We have our VoIP hosted with Orbtalk and have 10 extensions. I don’t have the costs in front of me but I know it’s not cheap.

 

I did think about hosting in house but didn’t want any problems as I’m part time so one of the hosted solutions may be the answer.

we've thousands of extensions installed in schools over a couple of hosted VoIP systems we do. Our My School Phones hosted VoIP is the most popular with most extension rentals sub £3 depending on your requirements so should work well for you. It works on any broadband provider although we'd recommend taking a line with ourselves so we can do end to end quality of service.

Currently in the process of putting Exa Voice into one of our primary schools. Very competitive on price and hopefully the service will live up to the broadband offering.
