CHiLL Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 We're using Windows 10 Education x64 1709 and will be upgrading to 1903 over the summer (in the process of testing at the moment). I've avoided using LTSC in-case there are any features like the store that I may need to use in the future.

There are other threads on here in relation to this. Although it is more work, stick to the xx09 releases which are supported for 30 months rather than the 18 months for xx03 releases. 2

We're using SCCM with Software Updates configured (WSUS is installed and taken over/managed by SCCM). I have it configured to only download security and critical updates.

We're a Google shop and don't use anything in relation to MS's cloud services, so LTSC was a simple decision. If you use their services and Office365 then going with LTSC would be akin to cutting yourself off at the knees. For us though, no Cortana, no store, no Edge and security updates for years is what sold it for us.

Useful info thanks, I didn't know that either. It's symbolic of how much of a mess Microsoft have made Windows 10. Whatever happened to Home and Professional versions of the Os? Wasn't that simpler and straightforward enough?

Then there's S, which is a different version, except then it's not, and Team, which needs a big-ass table, and mobile (and mobile enterprise), but not anymore, and bing, and chinese version, and N, and KN, which no one wants. Also server versions, and IoT, which is, or isn't, a whole different thing. Also it's called 1903, because it was released in May, and you could only get it in June. 8

Looking at the windows lifecycle https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet we are only going to gain a month of life before being forced to upgrade again so now I'm in two minds if it's worth the time and seriously thinking of leaving it till next year.

Jobos Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 Thanks @Arthur I forgot that bit. I use GP to point the machine at the configuration file. Computer/ admin templates / windows components /file explorer /set a default associations configuration file
