Laptop Screen Sizes

Hi all,

 

Just want to gauge opinions on laptop screen sizes for secondary school/college.

 

We currently have old 15 inch laptops, I am looking at replacing some of these and I am currently looking at laptops with a 14inch screen size.

 

Do you think 14 inch is too small for practical use by students? Do any of you use 14 inch laptops and if so have their been any complaints from students regarding the screen size?

We have smaller children and smaller laptops (11") [emoji57]

 

However, from personal use, I find 14" screens a much better compromise between portability and functionality.

 

If they're being carried a lot, you can go down to 13"and they're still usable for work, but 14" is better. Haven't bought any 15" laptops for myself or staff for quite a while now.

My MacBook 13" is the perfect size, anything smaller is too small anything bigger would be too weighty and large to go in my bag

For most of our pupil needs we use 11 inch netbooks staff use 15 inch laptops, I have had no complaints from either user group but I am moving towards a 14 inch laptop solution for both groups to simplify my supply chain.

 

I personally find the 15 inches both too big and too heavy to comfortably move around the school on a lesson by lesson basis and the extra inch of display makes little difference to me as long as the display is over 1000 px tall

we have 12" for students (primary school) and 12"-14" for staff except in certain cases. The exec head has a 17" monster because she uses it for hours and hours, and the BM has a 15.6" because it's the smallest thing we can give her with a num pad, we have one lady with eye issues who docks her 13" Latitude and works on a 32" TV at 1280x1024 that we picked up on FB marketplace for £15 because the tuner doesn't work!

depends on use case. my last 3 windows laptops have been 17" but the only one i use now is my 10/11 (i cant remember which) pixelbook and for most of the time its fine (though it does have a strange aspect ratio) a lot of schools seem to be going the chromebook route and most of those are sub 12"

13 or 14" laptops for everyone here, one person had bad eyesight and couldn't use a 13" laptop, but seems fine on a 14", they were bringing in a 17" for a while.

 

Mine is now 14" 1080p, which means everything is too small, so 125% it in win10, which works 90% of the time

High School. We use 15.6" laptops. Last time I was looking to buy, I got told on more than one occasion that 13" and 14" laptops tended to be more expensive!

 

Also depends whether the trolley is static and the kids go to it and get laptops then walk back to their class, or whether the trolley is delivered to the room.

We see Way more 14" laptops than any other sizes.

The big 3 manufacturers tend to supply a lot more 14" than they do 15.6" or smaller 12-13".

 

14" Devices tend to have the same specs (including screen res) as their larger cousins, but wight significantly less and also cost less.

It's definitely the best all around package as far as I'm concerned.

Now don't have to leave room for a dvd drive they've shrunk a bit. Still waiting for them to not leave a 2.5" drive hole in the case and fill it with battery though

I've been a 15.6" man for as long as I can remember, but these days, honestly, 14" is plenty big enough. Fits in the hand and on the lap better, and you're hard pushed to notice the difference when you're looking at it.
