RM Mobile One 310 CPU Upgrade Issues

Hi fellow Edugeek's

 

I have an RM Mobile One 310 Laptop I'm Trying to upgrade board serial WO58060202 MBD: H36YR

 

It currently has an Intel Pentium P6200

 

Chipset: Intel HM55 Rev 06

 

On the spec sheet for the RM 310 it says it can support a i7 620m processor but when I install this and hit the power the fans spin for a second and it doesn't boot, I get the same results if I take an i3 from another Mobile One 310. However if I put the pentium back in it boots fine.

 

I've tried removing the CMOS and power cycling but get no luck and I can't find any bios updates from RM it is however a American Megatrends inc 202 I will try to attach the CPU-Z Report for the machine and the RM Spec sheet any help will be much appreciated as I want this thing on an I7.

That CPU was launched in Q3'10 according to https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/50176/intel-pentium-processor-p6200-3m-cache-2-13-ghz.html. Can I ask what are the reasons behind trying to upgrade such an old laptop?

These are really good for us due to the ports and ruggedness and we thought since the i7's are not to expensive to get hold of we'd look at trying to upgrade them. Not having much luck though.

Does the Core i7-620m work in the Mobile One 310 with the Core i3 in it?

 

Do both laptops have exactly the same specs (apart from the processors) inc. BIOS versions?

Yeah we have a few of the I3 versions but the I7 does not work in those either it does the same thing the bios versions are all the same.

Could be you have a duff CPU, though BIOS version issues or restrictions are possible. I wonder if the BIOS has been locked down by RM and it could require a more generic flash (with the risks involved).

3s-gtech I'm really doubting it's the CPU as I've taken an I3 from another RM Mobile One slid it in and it does the same thing (won't boot). Pop that I3 back in it's original machine and it boots fine.

 

It's looking like some sort of lock but can't find any bios updates from RM it;s looking like these are built like ASUS A3F's though.

We used to have a similar RM device like that one - the RM equivalent of the "Panasonic Toughbook". It was a similar spec I believe but it wasn't used much in the latter years expect in dire emergencies due to it's spec. Fantastic build quality and ruggedness though I agree.

It's more than likely a bios limitation, and as you say, no BIOS updates from RM.

Yeah I'm thinking just pop it on eBay and move on was worth the research though, shame as these are cool machines and have things like a reservoir so that when water is spilled on the keyboard it drains.

Yeah I used to loved the toughbooks I used to have a CF-19 MK3 which was a great technician laptop as you could treat it mean just a shame the modern day spec versions are so pricey.
