Pyroman Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hey ho, Has anybody ordered from thinkgeek in the past? Was looking at some stuff on there(t-shirts mainly), looks great but does it work out alot for postage/HM customs charges and so on? Anyone know any decent UK based companies that do similar stuff?

Yes my son ordered some t-shirts only 2 weeks ago, came by DHL, took 1 day to get from the west to east coast of the states, then another day to get over the pond to Manchester and then ............... 2 days to get from Manchester to our house which is an hours drive away!!!!!!! Paul
Jona Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Be aware you may be stung with import duty on orders over a certain value....
tom_newton Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Never had any problems... mostly manage to avoid duty, but don't bank on it. Postage is usually insanely quick, considering the distance involved.
Jona Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Some discussion of thinkgeek alternatives and shipping over on multiplay: Thinkgeek anyone? - Multiplay UK Forums ThinkGeek UK? - Multiplay UK Forums Seems like import duty is less of a problem than it used to be.... Just something to be aware of... Cheers Jona 1
TechMonkey Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I've always held a dream to get a container loaded up from Thinkgeek cnetral and open a ThinkGeek UK. If only......

ICT_GUY Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Nice, I want the "I read your email" Shirt, that will upset just about everyone.
ICT_GUY Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I also want the one that says, Leave me alone or I will replace you with a really small shell script

Irazmus Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Be aware you may be stung with import duty on orders over a certain value.... Import duties and VAT kick in if the value is above £18 (unless it's a gift, then it's £28 IIRC). But as of 1/12/2008 the limit is being upped to £118, which is a much nicer figure for those of us who import a lot.
john Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I've had from Thinkgeek in the past, got a couple of shirts and they were fine and very quick to say they came in about 7 days unlike my missing tripod (2 weeks and counting, FFS its only coming from the other end of the flippin UK!!)
ICT_GUY Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) Cafepress order arrived. I had to pay an extra £12 customs. The t shirts are of poor quality and mishapen. The print quality is appalling and is uneven and not even the same design as to what I ordered and certainly nothing like the Mythbusters shirt. If you saw this shirt in a shop for £3 you would not buy it, at £20 its the biggest ripp off ever. NEVER EVER ORDER FROM CAFEPRESS FOR ANY REASON! Edited May 24, 2008 by ICT_GUY
ICT_GUY Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 They have agreed to refund my money, not sure how much, I am still out of pocket because of the import duty. I think I am going to be making my own design up and have them printed myself.
