Four years ago I built a good-spec gaming PC for a colleague. This week, their motherboard has died, and of course it's out of warranty now. It's LGA1150. As far as I can tell, these are all end of life. I can't find any for sale from a retailer. The broken board is a Maximus Ranger VII Z97, but I've been looking at all Z97, H97 and even lesser chipsets on eBay, but there's not a lot for sale. The only alternative would be to upgrade to a modern motherboard, but that means buying a new CPU and RAM when the ones he has are more than adequate.

Does anyone know where I could find a reasonably priced 1150 socket motherboard, either new, refurbished or used?

The top on is 1151 unfortunately, and I'm hesitant to spend more £100 on a used motherboard.

The bottom one is certainly worth considering, however it's very basic. It doesn't support front USB 3 ports, and the speed of the RAM would be reduced. It's the only board from a retailer that I've seen though, so good find.

How do you know the RAM and CPU are any good if the motherboard has died? Sometimes when it dies it takes everything else down with it.

Tested in my PC.

Fair enough, just wondered. So you removed all of your components in your PC to test the ones for a colleague? You must be good colleagues! :p
