Senso cloud - Your thoughts?

Greetings all,

 

Our school is looking at Senso Cloud for our network/classroom management tool. The Brochure looks quite good.

 

I was wondering if anyone on here was currently using Senso? I'd be interested in your opinion for the classroom management, safeguarding tools and antivirus components of this product as it could save us some money if it was rolled into one product

I have been using Senso for over a year now and just renewed and added Senso's Asset Manager to our subscription.

 

I think it's great and recommend it. The features are constantly being updated and most of them really useful, even more so now I'm working from home.

 

It's worth having a look at some of the tools built in but just to name a few which I find useful

 

Remote command prompt

Remote scripting - Powershell/Batch/VBS

Quite responsive Remote Desktop Control considering it's through a browser.

Remote chat

Remote application launch

Remote task manager

Software audit

Bulk shutdown / WOL

Ability to Unlock, locked PCs

Search machines by name or user logged on.

If you are in a trust, you can have multiple sites under one portal and assign site per site access

 

For these tools you can also save "shortcuts" so I have a Remote Command Prompt shortcut to run "GPUpdate /force" on selected machines for example

 

We also use Senso for our safeguarding so initially this was a bit of a saving as we moved away from Future Digital. The safeguarding tool, monitors keywords and save screenshots etc - Reports can be scheduled and critical keywords can be immediately emailed to DSL to investigate.

 

Access to Senso is granular too, if you do not want to over complicate the interface for teaching staff, you can restrict to relevant features such was screen locking, on screen quizes, screensharing, remote control etc

 

Pros:

Loads of useful tools with customisable shortcuts

Granular access

Ability to create policies / group machines

Great safeguarding tool - integrates with "MyConcern"

Very responsive support / development team

Most features work with chromebook

 

Cons:

Quite a price increase on renewal due to development (which might be seen as a good thing?)

I won't be able to do better than the post above, we use it not as a widescale currently as we are going to in the future, we find it a very good product with good support. Edited May 1, 2020 by keyboards

Very few negatives I can come up with for senso.

 

However I the few I do have are :

I think the connections can be somewhat flakey at times. I'm not convinced it is senso's fault... But with all the filtering and firewalls etc, it can sometimes be somewhat unstable.

 

The chat box... I've flat out banned my support team from using this part! It doesn't close when you close your side, so the users often continue typing with a "while you're here... " And it looks like we're just ignoring them. Then I get a crappy email from someone that we have been ignoring them... Argh I could rant so much about that chat box!!

 

No Mac or iPad clients. - this is probably the biggest complaint (or.maybe just lower than the chat box). It effectively means I tell my SLT that when a kid logs into a Mac or iPad, we can't prevent safeguard properly. Which is bad! In fact when I initially informed SLT I made the move to senso, but this was the draw back, they asked me to review in 3 months and look into moving back to impero if they had no Mac client. Here we are 1 year later. With still no Mac client. Luckily I managed to use the cost card to stay with senso still.

 

Lastly cost - it had a bit of a jump this year (development) being sited. But I have to confess that it is still worth it..

 

All these being said - senso are excellent are talking to you. I have had a few late night team chats with a few of the staff and they really are an excellent bunch who really do want to make a fantastic product.

It's brilliant! Oh, but we don't use it..... yet! Why am I saying it's good when we don't use it? I know Jon Valentine who wrote it and know how passionate he is about it and how good he will make his product. We're using Impero still and we were early adopters when he was still at the helm and there was a lot of input from him and his technical team dealing with the issues on Windows 7 which they resolved. For us its down to cost at the moment because of the license we have with Impero is just cheaper at the moment.

 

I also got early access to Senso when he first announced it and was impressed with it back then. Would love to have it, but we have something that works for us for now.
