Hi all,

I have the old local version of Junior Librarian at one of my sites, unfortunately support from MicroLib is erm... expensive! so I try to do my best with it, however last week my databases started dropping data for no apparent reason, yesterday morning we registered 5 students, who each took out a book, these stayed in the database no matter how many times I restarted the PC or restarted the Librarian software, Bookes showed as current loans, students shown in their correct year group and thumb print was also there. Yet this morning they have all disappeared... again!

Does anyone know why the databases would lose this information over night? This data isn't restored if I restore the database from backup (which writes every time the program is closed) either, its really got me puzzled!

Thanks!

I want aware there was a recycle bin, I will check this evening, thanks :)

We have Eclipse but I'm sure the menu structure is similar for Junior Librarian.

Why the students would be moved without you doing anything is odd. Any link with MIS going on?

No its a stand alone setup, no link to SIMS at all!

MicroLib (Or Capita now) are trying to convince the school to migrate to the cloud based version which will have a SIMS link I think, but the Head isn't keen at the moment.

Thanks :)

Do not move to eclipse hosted UNLESS you have seen a demo and played around with it. They say they are making improvements on their servers but i'm to see it, so much so we have a rep coming out to see how bad it really is.

It doesnt matter what time of say it is, their (capita's) software doesn't work!

Look at a product called AccessIT. There are a lot of schools moving from Eclipse to AccessIT.

Whatever you do don't move to the cloud version, it is beyond terrible!! We have fought on with it for a couple of years, but will finally be moving to Libresoft next week - we had a demo at Bett and it just worked, did everything we want and more and was so simple.

Sorry doesn't help much with your current problem, but if it becomes an issue and forces you to move then look at others before going to micro librarian in the cloud.

Where or how is it installed mate?

It is backed by an access database so it's likely when you close the connection the data isn't fully going into the database, I've seen it spin up a temp .mdb as a lock and then abandon it when the PC is restarted. Make sure the app is running as Admin and you have the right level of access to the access database files. Ive also seen wireless networking cause issues if your hosting the database files elsewhere.

Along with what everyone else says don't upgrade or pay for support, your wasting money that could be better spent on good quality toilet paper :)

Sorry for the delayed response, been swamped this past week!

Everything is local to the Library machine, which is cabled to the network, the only thing that isn't local is the backup, that writes to a shared folder on the DC.

Also, there's nothing recent in the recycle bin, its all from Sept 2018 when the Y6 leavers were removed.

Looks like ill try re installing the whole thing in the morning, restore the backup and hope it works, it dosn't make any sense, its like the data is just disappearing in to thin air over night.

Thanks!

If you have it installed on a local PC it could be user profiles causing your issue, it could be storing the database in the user's temp roaming folder and when you restart it clears it down.

Unfortunately not, we have restarted during the day quite a few times to see the data retained, the data is only lost overnight, but there is nothing special set to run overnight.

Thanks!
