Streaming a lesson to a student elsewhere

Dear all,

 

I have been asked if it would be possible for a teacher to stream their lesson via webcam, with audio, to a student in a different part of the school or at home. We have never done this before so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this, or if there are any 'off the shelf' solutions that will allow a teacher to kick off a lesson and have a student connect to the webcam session remotely without too much fuss?

If you use O365 you could Skype the lesson if you are a Google school then there is Hangouts otherwise FaceTime, you might have to tweak the filtering and setup accounts for the member of staff and the student but we have used Skype a few times now.

With 3CX you can have a live webmeeting video call while you have the lesson. Plus you can record the lesson which can be watched at a later time.

 

The call can be joined via a URL link or phone number with no account signup necessary.

Wow. For almost $10k I'd want it to do a LOT more too.

 

Skype / Teams is the way to go here.

I've seen something done with a GoPro, laptop and using a facebook event to live stream a concert. No idea exactly how it was done though.

I'd use VLC if internal, skype or similar if external

Skype for business (or normal skype) would be ideal, we use skyoe for our network manager meetings in the same way. Purchase a decent webcam and a decent onmi-directional mc (snowball blue - advanced version - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F233042792743 - has the different settings on the back for conference mode) and you're away.

Maybe teams could help here too embedded woth classnote book too.

Never had to do it, but my head goes to using an rtmp stream.

 

OBS to stream it

Linux server with an rtmp handler (nginx with an rtmp module will do)

VLC to watch it.

VLC has built in ability to stream, the L is for LAN after all
