So I've got this auto signing into Azure AD but there's no GPO to force it to turn on Sync (Only completely disable it...) which I thought it supported - Annoying!

Microsoft have released a 'preview' version of its Group Policy (ADMX) templates for Edge.

Is this still the best place to get the ADMX files from?

EDIT - actually, i think this is now the place to get them from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/configure-microsoft-edge. There is a link on the page which takes you to https://aka.ms/EdgeEnterprise. Download the policy files which come down as a .cab file. Extract the cab file and you will have the adm and admx files that you require.

There may be one thing that MS need to fix to get Edge (and Google Chrome) to work correctly - that is the Cryptographic Services. There are articles online explaning that Chrome will hang showing the Establishing Secure Connection which slows the browser(s) down. This rings true for Edge too as i guess it's built on the Chromium platform. Disabling this service makes the Chromium browsers run smooth.

Looks to me like we need to try and disable the first time run screen / get started screen from Edge though I do wonder if this is to do with setting up edge when using local or mandatory profiles.

According to the change log for Dev branch build 81.0.389.2 its been added so will have to wait for the newer Stable build and ADMX to be updated - Added a management policy to prevent the first run experience from running.

Show stopper for me is favourites not syncing with the redirected favourites folder as the new Edge GPOs don't seem to have a setting like the Legacy Edge version - Keep favourites in sync between Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge

Not a show stopper but Edge creating a desktop shortcut like Chrome does is a bit annoying for my OCD.

The "show stopper" you mentioned about the Favs, i have to agree too though i do feel that we may have to look at a "new way of doing things" as the favs are now stored as a HTML file just like Chrome (obviously) and burried deep in Local Appdata. There is the option to move the "user data" of edge to another location however this is not advised which i can understand.

As with Chrome, it is possible to disable the creation of the desktop shortcut via "masterpreferences".

For the 64-bit Edge MSI all you need to do is go to the CustomAction table, find an Action called BuildInstallCommand and add the text highlighted in red below to the same place in the Target. This will prevent the creation of the desktop shortcut during installation.

Just to add to my post above. The quoted msi_product_id and appguid are taken directly from the 64-bit v79.0.309.65 Edge MSI so are very likely to change in the future. The same applies to the MST.

Weird issue with ChrEdge GPO install, kept failing until I increased the GPO processing time.

BTW you won't be updating ChrEdge in WSUS, they're not putting it in, because WSUS is dead.

It won't be going out via WSUS, but I suspect that security updates to it may do so (can't find much on that yet).

Have you managed to deploy the browser via WSUS? Mine is downloaded and approved but every client PC I try isn't pulling the update.

I haven’t started the GP prep yet, so haven’t tested deployment. I tend to hold fire on doing this with new MS releases due to...QC issues.

Test deployment of 79 out to a few PCs using old school GP MSI deployment. Installs quickly. Few quirks with GP settings that I'm getting through okay. Hate the first use wizard thing, but may be unavoidable at this stage.

Updates for 79 showing in WSUS fine.

I had heard that future ADMXs were going to stop this. I haven't been looking for the new ADMXs though for version 80.

Just to give people the heads up the new ADMX files for build 80 now have Hide the First-run experience and splash screen

Hopefully a favorites sync one will be out in a later build.
