Remotely Controlling PowerPoint

Hi folks,

 

I'm after some suggestions on how to use PowerPoint, or just a method presenting full stop. I need to do some training in a large hall, but want to be able to control a PowerPoint remotely, as well as see my PowerPoint notes. The hall has a fixed VGA socket to connect to the projector.

 

I've got two approaches so far:

 

1. Running a long VGA cable to the front of the hall somewhere, with laptop on a desk. With this I can at least face the audience and refer to my notes, and drive the presentation with a wireless presenter.

2. Connect a laptop to the fixed point, then TeamViewer onto the laptop with a Windows tablet, so I can again drive the presentation and see my notes.

 

Can anyone think of a more robust solution than this? I'm wary that TeamViewer might not be 100% reliable!

If TeamViewer is your concern, why not remote desktop into the Hall laptop from your Windows Tablet and run the presentation from there?

wouldnt remote desktop disable the display on the machine you remote into?

If TeamViewer is your concern, why not remote desktop into the Hall laptop from your Windows Tablet and run the presentation from there?

 

Remote Desktop wouldn't work in this case as once you connect the local screen changes to a lock screen.

 

Remote Control if you have SCCM, or installing VNC Viewer, or using Remote Assist would be other alternatives.

I'm after the PowerPoint notes as well on something that I can carry around, ideally.

 

I did think of using the Microsoft Wireless HDMI Adapter, but I wouldn't then be able to run Presenter View, hence see the notes.

Unfortunately all I've got is a Windows tablet.

 

I've just tested with TeamViewer and it worked without issue.

 

I think I'd prefer to use VNC though. What version do people use currently? I remember it having gone to a commercial paid version when I last used it.

Do this, we do this for training and open evenings although we have a screen on a lectern that the member of staff can see.

 

So essentially we have two screens connected to a laptop. One being the screen on lectern and the hall projector. The member of staff has a wireless remote to advance slides.

 

Although we run the video signal over VGA signal extenders at either end of an Ethernet cable.

VNC is a protocol, not a program, I use UltraVNC myself.

We experimented with "Slideshow Remote Lite" using an IOS device. You install Logic Server (free download) on your PC with the ppt on it and control the slides using the IOS device.

@Gongalong - Can you not use DNA Remote Control to do what you want? ie put the laptop at the front and use NetSupport Remote Control to connect to it?

I could, but these are staff machined and normally we only have DNA on classroom PCs.
