No they do not, we go round and round and round in circles.

I am going to claim through the small claims court for breach of contract, to terminate the contract and get my money back.

They've had problems with rDNS recently and started to blame anyone and everyone ... the best one I heard of was saying that mail was bouncing (the sender explained it was going to a school ... forgetting to explain that the 'school' was a faculty at a university) due to improper configuration of routers at the destination, probably done by someone who was bought in cheaply as many schools can't afford people who know their stuff, especially in the States.

Erm ... it was an email to MIT. To the school of engineering ...

Worse yet, they have even told BT that we can only have a 2MBs line. So thats what the computer tells any phone jockey who "does a line test (looks it up on the BT broad band checker)". You can check any number in our road and be told 6Meg, check our number you get told 2meg, arghhhhh!

Going back to BT ASAP.

I have had the phone droids put the phone down on me several times because I pick holes in their arguments.

One conversation went.

Droid :Your network is at fault.

Meh : Its a plain Vanilla cat 5 network and I am a MCP. What exactly do you think I have got wrong?

Droid : Do you have wireless?

Meh : Yes.

Droid : Someone is stealing your bandwidth! Check your security.

Meh. : Its Tkip with mac address filtering.

Droid : mutters and puts the phone down.

I kid you not.

Definitely leave them but be careful how you do it.

They kept trying to charge me for their service for a couple of months after I had left. Naturally you refuse to pay for a service you are not using and they handed the dept over to a dept collection ageny (for £35). Fortunately I managed to get it sorted but be warned. The payments and services departments do not speak to each other.

Is why I have already drafted the paper work for the small claims court.

I don't mind doing the court thing, and it cost them £30 a pop, and they cannot win, not with six months of evidence on my side.

My connection is still workable at present but when they merge whats left of our once amazing Freedom2Surf connection into the Tiscali network next quarter I think it will be curtains. Considering setting myself up as an Enta.net reseller and opening Edu-ISP :D selling decent Internet to Edugeek members, only downside is no support from me as we should all be able to sort it ourselves :D

Do I take it the mumurings that were mentioned when I first mentioned the Nildram take-over, have come to nought? If so I have a few folks to move including (deity help me), my mother

Nothing as of yet :( Were just waiting to see who buys them this time :D My offer is in of £150 for the lot :D

thats crazy talk, thats barley enough money to run their support center for 3 months!

No but at least I have an idea about how to run a network unlike Tiscali who seem to be VERY lacking in this area :D If I bought it for £150 I'd give it to Edugeek to run as a consortium of schools. Oh and before someone chips in, Windows Servers FTW :D

I'm with pipex which is now a Tiscali company. What used to be a great and speedy service, I used to get 5meg pretty much most of the time. I now get 1.5 meg on average and 3 meg if the sun shines and the wind is in the right direction and it is a full moon etc!

When the contract is up in June I am off elsewhere pronto!

I was downloading Nvidia drivers last night to do a real world test of my 8meg broadband. Using the excellent FDM (free download manager) which uses mirrors and segmenting. This is the one seen in the video.

25KB a second. I could cry, its totally unusable, even Fark takes ages to load. :(

Once again this am its up above 500KB.

Tiscali is the Devils own ISP.

I don't get Tiscali's business model. They buy companies which have reputations for high speed and high quality service. They then proceed in gutting those companies and start hemorrhaging customers.

What's the point of that? Surely it isn't financially effective? Wouldn't it be more effective to run the companies as separate entities? If they really want to merge them together, it should take years to plan and action but Tiscali seem to roll out the changes within a year of purchase. Tiscali just seem very poorly managed on all levels.

I had enough, not of the lack of speed (I'm a light user, and it was never too awful for mail), but of the incompetence, attitude and unhelpfulness of the lot of them. The forums are a joke, the support is overworked and almost certainly narked off (I would be), as well as fighting on all sides to get info.

They seem to have no "interbusiness communication"..each section seems to not communicate with the others, and it seems they have lots of different "internal systems" that deal with various aspects that they're all segregated into and can't traverse...such as general accounts, and billing, and line management.

There are 2 admins on there - "MKPJ" and "MrTibbs" who are good..the rest..well..sigh. The fact I got banned 3 times for trying to help people, or just stating my dissatisfaction was the tipping point, along with the register article that disclosed their chairmans "Profits before customers this year" attitude and his determination to "make Tiscali profitable for the first time".

As I say..my new ISP was a revelation. Calls and mails every step of activation, calls on a sunday at 7pm from helpful english/irish staff just checking on details, speed sync at no lower than 6.5, usually 7.8mb, a great forum, and the ability to increase the usage cap from a control panel if needed for a small charge...all at the same cost as Tiscali 2mb..more than happy with that.

I wouldnt think there were any/many small ISPs left with poor reputations. Its probably a natural effect of market consolidation.

If you're having a problem with speed, try using SecureIX: Secure Internet Exchange

it's a free vpn.
