Community Site News from PlusNet

^^ Community forums. It seems they really do give a toss..so far, not one complaint I can level. I exceeded my 8gb, they throttle to 128k but you can keep going and just login to the members CP and up the cap for a quid with instant effect..I was impressed.

I also like the honestly of PlusNet  |  Home & Business Broadband Internet Access & Phone Services UK main page..the "why do we not offer unlimited broadband" bit, the free overnight usage and so on..I like companies that are open and up-front.

and no, I don't work for them. Heh. Just a happy user.

Took them a long time and many unhappy customers before they fathomed out what honesty was….I was one of the unhappy customers that signed up for their “unlimited” broadband which actually was unlimited for 6 weeks then the changed/capped everything and denied/lied/misinformed everybody ..then banned me form their forums. :)

Moved to F2S which were excellent until Tiscali got their grubby hands on it.

Now and ADSL24 customer, costs more than £6.49 a month though, but like they say you get what you pay for and £6.49 doesn’t by much even the ad - 2 woman in the bar "my mate really likes you" makes the guy out to be a complete plonker :D

I posted a few weeks ago on a different thread about my ongoing battle with Tiscali for 10 months of subscriptions taken after I'd transferred to Vodafone at Home. There are two reasons for this follow up: first, the good news is I finally got a cheque last week for the full amount; second, I only started to get anywhere when I got very formal in emails and abided by their complaints policy. I waited 7 working days between complaints and requested escalation to the next level each time, even though there had been no response (or an automated response). Once I reached the stage of registering with the ombudsman, the cheque arrived.

Good luck to those of you still with them!

Had another phone droid last night.

Droid : Can I confirm your dsl is working correctly.

ME : Not at 12kps you cant.

Droid : Well I can confirm your line only supports a maximum of 2mbs

Me : except in the morning when I can download at 6.5Megs, and (insert spiel on line quality). And besides 12kps is no where near even the most basic broadband, thats dial up speeds.

Droid : I will get BT to check the line again.

Me : Why the line quality is fine, theres not a problem with the connection between here and and the exchange which is only a mile away. The problem is with the amount of bandwidth you have for you customers in this area.

Droid : Mumbles, hangs up.

You can repaet the above conversation until you get board, I have had over 40 "line checks" so far. :(

I will post the letter before action later when its finished.

I would believe it but I have two major issues.

One I choose Freeom2surf (when it was f2s) because at time it was only people doing monthly contracts I wanted to be able to move when I wanted.

Related the fact that they are moving people over to llu without giving me a choice (I happen to found out via freedom2support) but how many people won't.

Also we will move you across to llu get increased speeds but fail to mention the fact that to move away back to asdl you need to pay admin fee.

If they gave me a choice I would be semi happy but not when I do not get a choice and they move me anyway.

We are moving to adsl24 :) and key here is happy can move to somone else easily with put paying an admin fee..

I find it interesting that Plus.net seem to have squelched the appalling reputation they used to have some years back.. In truth I still have a rather bitter taste in my mouth from their appalling service.

Weren't they the company that managed to completely wipe their customers email accounts not too long ago thanks to a server "upgrade" or something?

Sent a rather nastyl letter to Tiscali last week, threatening taking them to court over breach of contract along with a load of evidence. I was demanding that the terminate the contract, and imediately give us a mac code.

My download speed was up at 6.5megs last night until 7:30 at which point it dropped to around 3megs.

Its been like that since Monday. No other contact has been made to us.

The 14 day limit is still aways away.

Cancelled and switched to BT in december, cancelled the DD at the same time. We had a letter at Xmas complaining that the DD had been cancelled.

Wrote back with a very snotty letter, confirming the cancellation and threatening them with the small claims court if they continued to try to estort money from us for services no longer required.

Had another letter today saying that back in march we complained of slow speed on our connection and that they reduced the connection to 2mb and started another 12 month contract! All without the service getting worse (not that it could) and without a drop in cost.

So now I am charging them £12 per letter to sort their crap out and will take them to court within the month. oh hum.

First letter to Tiscali.

Dear Sir,

I see from your letter dated December 08 that you are still under the misunderstanding that we have an open account with you. We cancelled our phone contract with you on the 2nd of December. We cancelled our internet account with you 7 days later. We have also cancelled our direct debit with you because as a company you have a history of trying to extort monies from customers who have cancelled your services.

This is legal notice that the contract has been cancelled by phone on the dates specified above. We have not been using your services since these dates. With the dates above taken into account please send us a full and final bill up until those dates which we will gladly pay for by cheque.

If you continue to demand payment for services not received we will inform the office of fair trading and Ofcom that you are trying to extort monies from us in breach of the relevant statutory regulations.

Further threatening letters for services cancelled will be considered as intimidation used for the purposes of extortion and will be forwarded to the relevant authority for possible criminal prosecution.

Yours sincerely

2nd

Dear Sir.

With regards to your recent letter dated 15th of January,

We cancelled our phone contract with you on the 2nd of December. We cancelled our internet account with you 7 days later. This was done via your cancellation department. In the letter we sent you at the beginning of January we stated this along with confirming in writing the termination of your services for phone and broadband.

At no point did we agree to take out a new contract with you or agree to have our broadband speeds cut. In March we complained in writing about the way you were throttling our broadband speeds in the evening and provided documented proof of such. We were getting 8 meg speeds in the morning falling to 0.5 megs in the evening. With BT, either side of the appalling service you provided we have received a constant 8 meg service, again proof that the problem was not with our line. I certainly would at no point, for any reason, agree to a speed decrease when I was complaining about speeds being throttled.

Since you have said that you cut our broadband speeds From March this year without changing our price plan you have been over charging us for a service that you have failed to provide. I expect a full and immediate refund for the monies over paid to you during this period.

I also require full proof that a new contract was agreed, this would be in the form of a recorded conversation or a written agreement or other correspondence from us.

This mater has been referred to the Office of Fair Trading, they have advised us that you are in breach of the supply of goods act 1982. In part that you have failed to take reasonable care in your records keeping, failure to terminate with immediate effect once notified of the cancellation (both verbally and in writing) and by sending out demands for payment for services no longer required. On their advice we will also be seeking compensation for the time taken to correct this mater. In accordance with this a charge of £12 will be levied for each letter sent to you to cover our costs in sorting out your mistakes.

A complaint will also be raised with the CISAS in due course.

I expect for this matter to be resolved in full by no latter than 7 days from receipt of this letter, including the refund for services that you have said that you cut without our consent and without reducing our bill.

Failure to comply with this will result in the matter being taken through the small claims court.
