Advice/recommendation for user with worsening eyesight problems

Hi,

we have a member of staff who is gradually loosing their sight. At the moment they are struggling with text on their screen. They have a large monitor and use magnification tools. What they need is for the text to be 'bolder' at the moment normal text is merging with the background.

We've had a play with accessibility tools and these help a bit but wonder if anyone uses or knows of any specialist software?

cheers :)

I'd be encouraging them to use software that eventually will allow them to use the pc without a monitor. It is much easier to learn these when they still have some slight left.

I have used Dolphin SuperNova Magnifier and Screen Reader (costly) and NVDA (free) with various people/kids and they have all gotten on well with them. Dolphin is a bit more slick, but NVDA is awesome for free.

NVDA is amazing and just keeps getting better, many of the visually impaired people I have worked with over the years have switched from JAWS to NVDA and have not looked back

Have you tried playing with DPI scaling and/or high contrast mode? In Win10 high contrast can be turned on/off with Shift+Alt+PrintScreen.

Or what about doing something with the system fonts? https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-default-system-font-windows-10

unfortunately it looks like their condition is only going to get worst over time so I'm thinking of a proper software solution so that they can start getting used to it now if that makes sense.

Strongly advise them to get in touch with the RNIB as they are best suited to advise on this matter. Any specialist software that may help is very expensive so they need to choose the right one to help them else it may be wasted money.

Yes I think this is very wise as in the end it needs to be the best system for them. I am going to suggest that they do this and then from their advice we will move forward.
