Three Display Graphics Card?

Hi folks,

 

We have a need for at least a PCI Express 2.0 x16 card that has three outputs to drive three displays. The ideal is at least one VGA output.

 

By chance, has anyone come across a card guaranteed to do this?

What form factor do you need to fit it into?

The mobo says PCI-E x16 (Intel DH61CR board). It's in a standard desktop case, so not constrained for space as such.

Looking at that board, I'd suggest the following.

 

1 x Quadro K600 (DVI, displayport) 1GB PCIe X16 - Full Height Card

1 x Quadro NVS300 (DMS59 - 2 x VGA via splitter) 512MB - PCIe X1 Full height card

 

This setup would give you four outputs (1 x DVI, 1 x DP, 2 x VGA), with the K600 doing the grunt work and the NVS300 just providing outputs.

 

Getting a card to do three outputs gets more expensive, especially from the stock I've got here. Whereas using two cheaper cards means you only have to shell out £30 plus a little postage

If you've only got one slot available then maybe look at a USB VGA adapter.

dosent displayport itself support multiple outputs from a single cable though iirc you need an adapter or a monitor that supports it and has a passthrough

If all else fails we use USB to HDMI adapters which work fine. The cheaper ones don't support ultra wide monitors FYI

I’m running 2x NVS300 cards (both from ICT Direct) to give me a total of 4 VGA outputs. I think the NVS310 has dual DisplayPort outputs and the NVS300 will do either VGA or DVI depending on which DMS59 splitter you have.

Works great for me but I’m not running anything that’s GPU intensive.

Was about to suggest any of the Matrox line of cards as they are geared for this job exactly, however it's unlikely you wish to remortgage your home having just seen the price!

It only has the one PCI-E slot though, as far as I remember, is that an issue?

It suggests you ave 1 x X16 and 2 x X1 slots. That would support the dual card approach I suggested

If you need something powerful, you could go with an AMD Radeon WX2100 with 3 DP connectors, but if it's just to drive 3 screens, Dave's suggestion is much cheaper!

Yep, I've got a few NVS300's with the X1 connection I used to drive three screens with an x16 & X1 NVS300 back when i used an old HP 8000 here.

 

And for power, we've got Quadro K4000's with 3GB GDDR5, but they're like £140 or something and don't come with VGA.

You can always jump into the BIOS and not disable the onboard display adaptor in the presence of an expansion card. That way you only need to get a GPU that can do 2 outputs and stick with the onboard for the 3rd.

I've got an old VTX3D X-Edition Radeon HD 7770 from home at one site and an XFX Radeon HD 6850 from eBay at another. Both driving 3 displays with the use of adapters. Not doing anything fancy, though - just driving 3 displays because it looks impressive.

if you MUST have a native VGA port then a last gen card is the way to go £45 for this plop would work well. The GeForce 710

Otherwise an RX550 (£100) with a dp to vga adaptor. (£6) DVi connectors are digital only on modern cards.

I have a MSI GTX 750ti in my office PC and am running 3 22" monitors, 2 landscape and one portrait with no issue. It has 4 outputs but can only support 3 monitors at once but you can switch to the fourth

I have a pair of GeForce GT720 in my machine, simple 1gb cards but I could run 6 monitors if I wanted (only run 2 at the moment, have had 4)

Many thanks to @ICTDirect_Dave who sorted out two cards at a very reasonable cost, and then also sent out a replacement cable for one of the cards at no extra cost (when I must have accidentally thrown the first one away!).
