Yes! @caffrey - you hit the nail on the head. As soon as I disable "real time pressence", the powerpoint error goes away.

Have you informed Google or started a post on their forums?

I oddly cant replicate the issue on my own system, either at home or work

I don't think it matters where it's saved, my downloaded pptx are usually in a folder that is untouched by filestream and still crashes out - only turning that option off fixes it. Filestream must be monitoring all office file usage ?

Filestream probably has hooks into explorer and PowerPoint. You could add trusted locations via group policy. I've not heard of this issue with Office365 Proplus. I have a suspect microsoft don't test with the legacy versions of office (2010/2013) anymore.

I can confirm the issue exists with 2016 Pro Plus and that its directly related to Google File Stream. Through process of elimination, I started killing apps one by one and found that when I have File Stream disabled and open the file from email (downloading to the downloads folder) the file opens as expected with the "Enable Content" button. What's odd is that if I start file stream again, the file will continue to work (even after deleting and redownloading), but other files that have never been successfully opened start to fail again.

It's not just file stream, some of our users dont have file stream yet and having this issue with their own created PPTs

Ive still not found a fix other than the one further up in the thread.

We’ve also had this issue for a while, I did some testing today thought I’d share results in case anyone finds them useful.

Issue only seems to affect newer versions of GDFS, 28.1.35.1747 shows issue whereas 27.1.49.1806 does not.

I tried the Google admin fix but it did not work for me.

It took over 24 hours for the Google admin fix to work at my sites.

I left it 3-4 days between changing the setting and testing.

But it is possible the change hadn't picked up as I suspect the "real-time presence" is the cause of the issue.

Allow users to enable real-time presence in Microsoft Office from Drive File Stream

unfortunately turning this off is not an option for me. The school had been testing Team Drives for a while but kept overwriting each others work, they had just asked me to move back to the onsite server when Google released this feature. Its the only reason we are still using Team Drives.

Eventually I will get them using G Docs etc but this is a small steps type of school.
