Installing More Than 128 GB Internal Hard Drive in a G4

I'm wondering if anyone has installed an internal hard drive that is larger than 128 GB on their G4 (AGP Graphics) without any problems. Can it in fact be done?

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT2544 I have a G4 MDD with a 320GB HDD in it - that works fine. If it's the PowerMac3,1 then you'll need to use software like the SpeedTools ATA Hi-Cap Support Driver.

I've installed 1TB IDE HDDs in the Mirrored Doors G4s and they've worked fine. I'm also looking at a similar G4 to yours that has a 500GB IDE drive installed and that too works fine. You can get a SATA connection kit that works well in the PowerMac G4 range.

Did they just work in the pre-MDD models, or did they need any fettling? I've read that add-on cards get round this issue.

According to this post on an apple discussion forum, 128GB is the maximum for a Powermac G4 Digital Audio Mac. However according to Other World Computing (OWC) you can put a 500DB SSD into a PowerMac, but I would suggest its probably a MDD model, but it's nice to know I can put an SSD into my old G4.
