enjay Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Is it bad that I'd trust CTF's sent over by incompetent people, imported into an incompetent system more than anything sent by our LEA? Contact information which LEA send is provided by the parents. That said, even they get it wrong sometimes - there was a child who went right through my last school with the wrong date of birth, because his parents wrote his day and his brother's month when filling in the application form, and never spotted it on the annual data collection. It was only when registering for Parents Evening System (where the login details include the child's DOB) it was spotted!
DODICT Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 The real madness is y'all seem surprised and even more so many stick with a product that is poor in terms of its functionality , priced at a premium and seemingly rife with serious bugs. My analogy - if my wife was ugly, made me unhappy and cheated on me several times a year I wouldn't be renewing my wedding vows or indeed expecting her promise of a bright future (SIMS8) to come to fruition. Just sayin'
localzuk Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 @DODICT - you make it sound like changing MIS is something you can do quickly and easily... Maybe in a small school? But for us, across a Trust? Not so easy.
bobsmith Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Having done a couple of migrations of MIS over the years my experience is that it always looks worse than it is. We went from Integris to CMIS pretty damned quickly and then CMIS to SIMS only took a month or so. From what I hear the newer MIS migrations aren't anywhere near as painful. Anyway that's a tad off topic - I'm just really annoyed that they've done it again - since this can lead to a data breach as "random" contacts can be added to a record this should really be big news.
DODICT Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 you can be better off in a year easily - even as a trust. In schools we naturally work in year cycles in terms of seeing impact so putting it off year on year is just short sighted in my eyes. And I'd argue as a trust SIMS is where the market is most ahead of it - the intelligence you can extract, automations you can achieve and efficiencies you can realise with other systems can add so much value in a multi school scenario. Is it easy ? No - but your better off getting the divorce my friend, it'll be the best thing you ever did. . .

Genuine question, I don't mean that argumentatively - the staff retraining cost is the thing which held us back from a MIS migration at my previous school. 1
robyholmes Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Would this affect ATF's as well as CTF's? Am I right in thinking they are the same process and similar format just with a different name and slight different information?
DrCheese Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Our school situation (Trust wise) is a bit up in the air at the moment. Once that's a bit more clear I'm going full tilt towards replacing SIMS asap. I'm sick of it. They've had *years* to catch up yet can't get the basics right. Meanwhile their competitors are eating their lunch. They are exactly the same as Microsoft was when IE6 ruled the roost. They got lazy & let the product rot assuming no one would ever switch away from them. Edited July 2, 2019 by DrCheese 1

True for the majority but not usually when it matters most - usually when childrens services are involved
bobsmith Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 And how long did the staff retraining take to get the skill levels back up to what they had been pre-migration? Genuine question, I don't mean that argumentatively - the staff retraining cost is the thing which held us back from a MIS migration at my previous school. We paid for the full SIMS training package by Capita and critical staff (mostly admin) were brought up to speed very quickly indeed. Report writing takes longer to get your expertise back to what it was - particularly when you're pushing the boundaries of what any system can do. Teachers are very adaptable creatures and taking a register and looking up the basics is pretty straightforward in any system - didn't take long at all to run them through the every day stuff. I agree though that this is probably the most critical bit of the process - my current school (before I arrived) had completed the migration and didn't buy anymore than the cheapest training package - hence a lot of re-training when I arrived.
localzuk Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 This has indeed been the final nail in the coffin - our COO and Admin manager have said that this basically means we cannot trust the integrity of SIMS .Net any more. So, we're now setting ourselves a date of Sept 2020 to move off it. We've had enough. 2
blueday Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Latest update from MyAccount: Date 02/07/2019 13:00 Following our previous note regarding CTF imports for SIMS Spring 2019, we can confirm that a patch to address this will be available by Friday 5th July. The patch will be included in the SIMS Summer 2019 release and will not affect those that have already applied the patch to the SIMS Spring 2019 release. The SIMS Summer 2019 release will be delayed until next week (w/c 8th June) as a result. We believe this scenario to be infrequent and currently have a single confirmed case.
Seb1780 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 8th June? I suspect they mean July... They didn't specify the year 8/6/2020 is a Monday!
pete Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Patch 25040 is now available (as of ~16:30 today). https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/Notifications/Important_2019_Spring_Release_awareness_regarding_CTF_Imports/

blueday Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 (edited) Lol - I'd forgotten all about that video! Still makes me laugh. (Although my OCD around apostrophes gets a big workout) Edited July 5, 2019 by blueday 1
DrCheese Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 It's funny because it applies in full even so long after. SOLUS3 is still a pile of hot garbage (Why can't I deploy it easily via GPO like I can... everything else - or be sure it'll auto upgrade clients)
StevieM Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 Why have I never seen that before?! I may just have to forward a link to all the admin staff.
