Water damaged phone

Arrrh,

 

Wife's phone is a Sony Xperia z5 compact, which according to Sony is waterproof.

Sadly it is not.

 

Now doesn't turn on, anyone know any companies or people that might be able to get the data off it?

don't need the phone to work any more just want all the photos off it.

 

If anyone on here can do it, I'm happy to pay

have you tried the covering it in rice trick to get all the moisture out?

 

not much good now, but mine and the missus' have dropbox installed which auto uploads photos to dropbox

No no nooooo, do not use rice! Silica gel, warm air, battery removed, patience, but not starchy food products!

Also for future reference sync your phone to your google account so you have all your apps...photos and contacts backed up to the cloud...always a good thing as you never know when this kind of incident will happen...

You want to wait for at least 4 days of drying before you decide it is dead for sure.

Ideally it should be dunked in 99% Isopropanol first to drive out any water before being left to dry. Even tap water isn't very clean.

What version of Android does it run and was it encrypted ?

If there is no encryption then your photos should be recoverable from a chip off data recovery service.

If it was/is then you'll need the phone repaired to a state that allows it to be powered on.

The phone was syncing everything, but for some reason it stopped doing it in January

So she has all the photos up to January but its all the one since then that she wants.

 

Couldn't take the battery out as its a sealed unit, as its meant to be waterproof
