At our place we use onelan boxes for digital signate but not being the arty type I just used one of the original templates and put our content on. Would anyone be kind enough to share their onelan box templates? I don't think there's any copyright/licencing issues with it, as long as the original author doesnt mind ;)

Thanks :D

One of my guys wrote a really nice looking template and we used it for a while until SMT decided it was too crowded. - Well we liked it :(

Shall locate a pic for you and post it.

I just got a OneLAN box for hire last week and spent Friday making a unique template.

The OneLAN box is turned off at the minute (with it being holidays) but I will be messing around with it later on this week - if you can wait a couple of days I will zip mine up and pass it on.

Just out of interest who updates all the info your our onelan boxes?

Currently i do all the updates and well i dont have time, gets forgotten etc, i think it would be better by an admin staff member who gets things like sports reports etc but wondering how other places do it.

Kmount that looks brilliant one day i'll have to the time to get a nice layout like that but it's difficult to fit it all in with live TV.

We made a song and dance to make sure we weren't maintaining it!

We set up a shortcut to the various 'zone folders' so the person who does maintain it just drags and drops stuff in.

Staff email the stuff they want putting on as Powerpoint (Whch is then saved as JPEG).

I just created a background file like this....

Top left I have video. Bottom left is RSS. Top middle is school messages (where the admin staff update with ADHOC access). Top right is the school logo that I created in Flash. Middle right is small images (thumbnails basically) and bottom right I have set as HTML to show content on the VLE.

I will attach a pic of the One LAN screen when I turn it on hehe.

I think i'd prefer kerrymoralees ONElan files.....

kmounts template is very informative but it's a bit too busy and difficult to read/navigate for my liking becuase there aren't clear divisions between sections.

@Toledo: Why thank you - I just created the background with Fireworks. You should be able to edit the .png file in fireworks and change the colours to suit your school or delete some areas if you think its cluttered.

I'm just going to take some pics of the screen so you can see it in action.

Be back in 10

Right, here it is guys.

I've attached the package file that I created - let me know if you can install this ok. It includes the example media I use (a video of some green screen product, 3 dummy pictures, and the school logo)

I've also attached a pic of how it looks so you know properly without needing to download and install (The green scene vid is supposed to be in top left but these dont show on snapshots - it will appear if you install package)

We adopted the Onelan solution during the Easter half term, and have since developed a few screens for use.

We have a general school day one that runs throughout the day, then one that kicks in at breakfast and lunchtime which is full screen showing The Hits free view channel. We also have an INSET day with agendas and BBC 24 but have plans for Open Evening, Presentation Evening, Parent Evening, Year 6 into 7 Evening etc

32" in student area

42" in reception (I think)

We're looking at getting either 40" or 42" for the hall.

That looks very nice!

I'd like to have a go at creating my own template when I get a few minutes to spare, probably during the summer. How do you go about working out the positioning of the zones? That is what I can't get my head around.

Its quite simple really to understand the concept of the modules. I used Photoshop to create my template but something like Fireworks will do the same.

You need to first specify a size for screen res on the Onelan box for your plasmas. I cannot remember what we did but i think it was 1280 x 8xx i think. You then need to create a new document in your editing program and make sure its the same size as your screen res set.

Now you create the design how you want but make sure that you do not put too much on as this is for info and should not be cluttered.

Once the design is complete, you need to bring on the rulers and add soe guide lines. From the guide lines you will be able to work out the exact pixel from top and left for placement of the modules. You then just need to add the module and play text and background colours
