Hi All,

Well i am sorry but i have to share this hilarious yet so shocking moment with you.

Member of staff walks into my office today and the following coversation starts:

Staff: Hi, i deleted a file of my computer Friday last week!

Me: ok right

Staff: well the thing is i realised i actually need it again, i was wondering if i turned the clock on my computer back to friday which was the 4th would i get the file back?

Me: Laughing in histerics at her ended up walking out the room!!!

How can someone come out with that, i have heard somethings in my time but sorry that was just one of the most ridiculous things anyone has said to me. She feels so stupid now and is still asking why i just burst out laughing :o

Anyways just wanted to share

Quick, employ her as a usability designer. That's probably how it should work - you should be able to just wind back the clock - it's the ultimate undo. The fact that we haven't delivered it yet, doesn't make it a dumb idea.

Imagine if in order to debug a program, you could just rewind it to before the problem occurred, change something, play it forward again, again and again until you got it right? Cool, huh?

@davyboi: Well they could be lucky and the autorecovery file might be there.

LOL.. Tell her that if you turned the clock back you could mess with the space time continuum.

OS X does have this feature... It's called Time machine :p

You have to admit, that is so exactly how things should work. Doesn't Mac OS X have a "time machine" feature something very much like this?

It's a good idea for a restore interface though isn't it? a sort of H G Wells Brass Clock Icon that takes you back to an earlier state, even as far back as Windows 95 ;-)

But on a serious note I would never embarass a workmate like that, I think the role of ICT Pro is almost a religious calling, ours is esoteric knowledge we can share discreetly, and if you get a reputation for helpfulness and subtlety, it's amazing the things people will tell you:D

We've got a department at the moment where we are having a similar problem... due to time problems at the time the department was given admin access to their 2 pc's to let them use a package. After strict instructions that work needs to be saved to memory stick and server space i left them. Now a year, yes should have got to it sooner, later the HDD on one starts to fail. Thankfully got 95% of work off just incase the little darlings and teacher had not followed instructions.

Of course they hadn't now A-level coursework is missing, pupil had no backup of work at home. Would you believe they are meant to be media students and had no idea that they should backup their work.

I keep reminding people here that blonde is not a hair colour, but a state of mind. We have a few 'blondes' here ...

I am Blonde ;)

Surely the problem with turning the clock back, however you do it, would be loosing all the work you did in the intervening period?

surely the bigger problem is if you turn the clock back, then go and visit a gambling site, place a bet on a race you already know the result of.......the mind boggles!!?!?!

what?? :D
